It's about time

Well, I'm 30 years old, 6'4" tall and at the moment I'm 275lbs. I feel like crap all the time, and I'm always tired. My cardio gets maxed out when I climb a flight of stairs. Oh, I almost forgot the weight related high blood pressure. So ya, it's about time I did something about it.

I have managed to collect about 400lbs of free weight, a bench and an all in one home gym unit. As well, I have an elliptical trainer I salvaged and rebuilt(sometimes being a machinist really pays off) Now I just have to get off my butt and do something with it all.

My goal is to loose 55lbs and keep it there. I went with 220lbs as my goal because it seemed like the most reasonable number I got out of those "ideal weight" calculators you find online. Given that I have a wide frame it seemed reasonable.

As an added bonus, my wife is on Weight Watchers, so I have all the books and stuff to put myself on it at a much more reasonable price... Free.
The only thing I'm not sure of right now is time line. How much time should I expect it to take to safely loose 55lbs?? I have no intention of causing more problems trying fix this one.

Well, here goes...

Hi Mike and welcome! With some modest changes with increasing exercise and watching what you eat losing at least 1-2lbs a week is considered healthy. However, I found that I lost a lot in the beginning and then it tapered off to the 1-2lbs a week. You'll be surprised at how quickly your body will respond to the healthy food and exercise! There are a lot of great people here with great advice:) I am sure you will find what you need! Good luck!

Well, I fell flat on my face. It's really surprising just how hard it is to say no. Then again, it never helps that all the quick things are bad for you.

Well, I guess it's not how many times you fall off but how many times you get back up. Round 2 here I come.

Hi Mike,
welcome, I just joined too, and I have found many beneficial things, including recipes to avoid boredom. Support from all these folks, anda place to be accountable. A couple of months ago I got winded tying my boots, and decided it was do or die time. :banghead: You can reasonabley expect to average 2 pounds a week safely, and permanently. Good luck!!!

Here's to us all

Lets do it,
Brian
