It HAS to be now

Hi ya'll!

I've been lurking around this site for many months, trying to get the gumption to start posting. I've got the typical story... been overweight since I was a teen, had many unsuccessful attempts at losing the weight, have a food addiction, and am at my breaking point. Every year since I was sixteen, I've made a comment at the beginning of the year that I will lose some weight before my next birthday (which is always five months from the time I say it). I've never been able to do it. Even though I've got a month until the big day, and I'm a bit late in getting my ass in gear, I'm going to lose SOMETHING this year.

I've gotten to the point where I'm not comfortable in my own skin. I'm constantly concerned about what other people think of me. I hate having candid photos taking and seeing what I ACTUALLY look like versus what I think I look like. It's a shocking thing. I have at least a total of 100 pounds to lose. I've lost a few, but I've got a big journey to go. I'm glad that I will have this site to turn to for support. Every one of your journeys will be giving help to me in mine.

:)

Welcome, TampaChick.

You're going to love this forum. It's the only thing that's ever kept me so focused on my goals. Check in often, and look at lots of diaries and before/afters. You won't be sorry.

You can do it! You sound a bit like me! I am sick of being the fat one! Just keep updatein, i would love to see how your going.

Welcome to the site! I can totally relate with the photo not matching what I think I look like!! Good luck!

Welcome! You've made a difference already joining the site.

I suggest making LIFE CHANGES. For instances, if you drink regular sodas, try changing to diet. If you drink a lot of milk, try getting the one lower, with the less fat (i don't expect you to go straight from regular milk to skim milk). Switch to whole wheat as much as you can, pasta, breads and rice. Drink lots of water. Trying make exercise a part of your daily routine, like taking a shower.Trying lowing your fast food take in.

I've made ALL of these life changes (and more) and have been seeing pretty good results.

You've already made some of these changes, congratulations!!! You are on the right track.

Today, I was at an all you can eat buffet (i haven't been to one in 4months...my mom forced me to come), and in the past, I was able to consume 3-4 plates easy. Suprisingly, after the FIRST HALF plate (not a whole plate) I was full (i ended up getting a whole plate, then filling up with a plate of fruits, and i was done)

Little life changes ensures that when you do lose the weight, you keep it off (I've read one study where, when people go on a diet, lose the weight, then get off of their diet, that 85% of them regains all the weight within 2 years).

By the way, I'm plannng to going to USF next semester. I'm curious, are you an alumni from there :p

Also, congratulations on the 13 lbs lost so far!!!:D

Thanks ya'll.

Yeah, I tried to be 'soda free' for 2007 but once the beginning of March hit, and I gave blood, the fed me with a soda, and so that ended that. I think I have a SERIOUS addiction to Diet Coke. I have to say, I have been trying to drink more water/crystal light than the DC.

It's one of those things where exercise is what I need... but I can't seem to get going with it.. heel pains, joint pains, etc. make it extremely uncomfortable for me.

USF? Naaaah. I'm a Georgia gal all the way. I relocated down here to Tampa a year ago for work. It's been quite an adjustment for me.
