I'm a guy and I weigh about 188 lbs. I want to losse anywher from 28-38 lbs. I was taking diet pills but I stopped and decided just to watch what I was eating and exercise. I run 40 min a day.

I've been reading online about the minimum amount of calories I should be taking to not go into starvation mode, but i've been getting mixed messages. Some sites say that men need 1200-1600 calories a day while other sites say that men need at least 1500. I've just started watching what I was eating and exercise today and I've been going for 1200 calories a day.

Does everyone here think that it's healthy for me to do this? Thanks!

Sounds healthy, glad you stopped taking the pills. I do believe for men its 1500 cal minimum, and woman its 1200 cal minimum.

Yes I have, They usually tell me that I burn anywhere from 2600 - 3100 calories a day.

It says on that website that The American College of Sports Medicine recommends a minimum of 1200 calories per day for females and 1800 calories per day for males.

and on yahoo health it say:

Recommendations for a low-calorie diet include:

* A total calorie intake of 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day for women and 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day for men.

I want to loose weight, so 1200 calories will keep me from going into starvation mode since I'm a guy?

Thanks!
