i was just wondering if canned fruit (in its own juices) is healthy obviously i know fresh fruit is better but i was just wondering what other peoples thoughts were on it. or should i stay away from canned fruit all togther the fruit im on about are fruits like canned peachs pineapple pears etc.

As long as there are no added sugars, they should be relatively healthy. Just read your labels to make sure they're not sneaking in high fructose corn syrup or something similar.

I work for a company that produces vast quantities of canned fruit. For a healthy version only stay with fruit canned in natural juice. Anything else do not buy as we put lots of additives and lots of sugar in them. Fresh is always best.

my dad used to always rinse off the juices from canned fruit...wonder if that actually works in significant cal reduction??

It probably does but only very slightly. We very rarely use granulated sugar in any canned food. We buy it in liquid glucose by the tanker load. Washing the fruit would possibly get rid of most of the extra sugars as the fruit dosen't usually absorb this even when processed.

How about tinned fruits in syrup? Immediately you'd think very high in added sugars, but according to the tin it isn't that low in calories but is virtually fat-free?! (There must be a catch...?!)

Fat free is means something is free of fat
That's completely unrelated to the amount of sugar in a product or the amount of calories

the catch is that you're buying into marketing- just because something is fat free -doesnt mean you can eat all you want of it - you still have to watch calories...

Fruit rarely has fat in it (avocados being an exception) but becuase people have equated fat free to healthy - the manufactureres will play on the consuminers fears....

Fat in a product doesn'tmake a person fat - excess calrories do
