Sport is this starvation mode correcting? now what?

Sport Fitness
hello....i'm 5'5'' female 30 yrs old and FRUSTRATED & CONFUSED! ha. ugh.

I was on a low calorie diet 1100-1300 cals/day for about a year, though multiple plateaus, i managed to drop from 160-140. i learned for the amoutn of exercise i do, i'm undereating which is why i've been stuck floating around 1401-145 for about 6 months...and i was told to UP my cals..

i m pretty much willing to try anything..so i slowly inc to 1500 cals /day....6 wks later..nothing lost, nothing gained..

so, i was told to UP them again...upped to 1700 cals = 6 wks later - just the past 2 weeks, I'VE GAINED WEIGHT....and floating b/w 145-150!!

is this a correction from starvation mode? how many cals should i be eating? if it is a correction, how long does this last? is this weight never going to go away?

my ultimate goal is 130 lbs and toned!

pls help. thanks.

and if i maintain at 1500 cals (even though trying to lose) and gain at 1700 cals....wouldnt the 1700 be too much?

even though all cals out there say to eat 1700 cals to reach my goals?

is this from my past experience of eating 1200 cals for too long or just a yucky plateau and eat at 1500 & sock it up?

Everybody is different, all the calculators are just approximations. Depending on your sex, age, race, genetics, diet and exercise history, etc. you may need more or less calories. It sounds like you are making small changes and then following them for 6 weeks which is good. If you are starting to slowly gain then maybe you have an unusually low BMR and need to reduce calories slightly, I'd try 100 calories at a time.

Some people also benefit from calorie and/or carb cycling. That is, you consume say 30 grams of carbs for 5 days and then 120 grams for 2 days and repeat...or 1900 calories for 2 days and then 1500 for 5 days or... I recall seeing some diet plans for that on T-Nation, so you might want to search there. You just have to experiment and see what works for you (and just to make it more confusing, what works for you today may not work for you next year, because your body may have changed by then).

thanks a lot for your post

i appreciate your help. calculators are not end-all-be-all..but i just cant figure it out..keep waiting the 6 wks and hoping for something positive! :)

some day!!

i think i'll eat around 1500 cals & focus on strength building.

What exactly are you eating? can you give a approximate % of your daily intake of protein,Carbs and fat?
