Is this bad?

Ok, so I went to the gym for the first time in a while this week. Anyway I worked out my back, triceps, and on the pec dec did my pecs. Now I did it until I was done with my sets and was normally sore mid way through my last set so I just finished up. THe rest of the day and next day however I didn't really feel it. Does this mean I didn't work it out hard enough? I mean my tricep is still a bit sore, but I didn't feel anything in my back for the rest of the day. Just curious thanks for any reply's.

soreness is not an indication of a good workout. at most, you should feel a little stiff, to th epoint stretchign will feel good.

pain indicates you did too much.

the first time you go to the gym you will get sore. when you try a new exersice you will probobly get sore, and if you really push yourself for a new PR you will probobly get sore. however, after just "another day at the gym" you shouldnt be sore.

Karky,

true, though ideally, brand new trainees should only do 1 set per exercise for the first 2 weeks...and slowly ramp into it. but of course, that leaves them feeling 'no pain, no gain' so they jump into 3 sets immediately, and after 3 weeks, they aren't in agony anymore :)

yeah ofcource, though you could still be sore. if your body aint used to working out, its gonna feel it if you start lifting weights. i started slow, but i got sore.
and yeah, beginners dont need tons of sets and a high volume, because they cant handle it.

absolutely. i remember the first time i did squats - i didn't even use any weights (!!!)... or maybe i used like... 3kg dumbells or something, but anyway my legs were agony for about a week after and felt like jelly. the next day i felt like my legs were going to give way when i was going downstairs

it was the same the first time i went swimming. i was very very unfit and i probably only swam about 6 lengths in total and my whole body ached for days after that. discovered muscles i never knew i had! :D
