is my fitness instructor wronge, help?

Ok well I just signed up for a year membership at my gym, and I was on the treadmill, I thought I was doing good. My heart rate was up to 170, I was like yes im doing pretty good im losing some body fat. My personal fitness instructor told me to keep my heart rate between 130-160, im 18 years old by the way. He said if I go over 160 im burning fat, and MUSCLE. I dont want to burn muscle lol. But here if the thing, this other personal fitness instructor I had said it doesnt matter what my heart rate goes up too, can somebody please tell me if my heart rate goes up over 80%, am I burning fat and muscle?

And here if my other question, im almost down to the weight I want to be. I am about to start my weight lifting. Is regular crunches a good exercise for your abs? I do crisscross crunches to, where I touch my right elbow on my left knee lol, if that a good exercise for your abs also? And when you work out your abs can you do as many as you wants, or should you do sets of crunches?

Your trainer is probably afraid you will overtrain which is why he told you to keep the heartrate down, but that is really unncesscary. At higher intensities you should be burning more fat I believe.

Regular crunches are okay for your abs, and crisscross ones (or bicycles) are unique. Your abs are just like any other muscle so do 3 sets of 10.

3 sets of 10, I do 3 sets of 10 and I dont feel anything though..? Arnt I supposed to feel the burn lol?

You shouldn't feel sore after a workout, just a little stiff. Being sore is not a indicator of a good workout. If 3 sets of 10 is easy for you add a dumbbell or a medicine ball to add resistence. Again, the abs are just like any other muscle.

You have to be wary of trainers coming out of dodgy institutes. I know that where i live you can either do a one year college course and work your arse off or you can go to an institute and do a 12 week course that simply consists of filling out a few workbooks and limited practical work. At the end, whichever route you chose, you leave with the same qualifications. There's obviously a problem here. I'm sure that where you live there are probably similar systems set up. Just be aware of that when you recieve advice from a trainer.

Ok thank you guys, and I will think about that next time I take advice from a trainer. The past week I have been keeping my heart rate around 50, hes a fitness instructor I thought he would know what he is talking about lol, guess not...

muscle burning shouldnt really be an issue, if ur diet is correct. and ur not training stupidilly (<------that a word? eheh:yelrotflmao:
