Is McDonalds really that bad...?

Seriously,

I have been eating either two side salads, or one side salad and a grilled snack wrap. I know that part isn't bad, but today i was looking at their grilled chicken sandwiches. Does anyone else eat McDonald's, or have any opinion about my lunch choice!?!:lurk5:

i would try googling to see if they have a website that contains the calories/nutritional facts of their menu items... that would be the best way to see how well of choice the sandwiches are =P hope this helps?

It depends on how you look at it honestly. If you ONLY eat it, then yes. The food is low quality and highly processed. As far as the salads go, as far as I know if it has fried anything on it its going to be high in cals and dressing adds cals too.

They do offer nutritional information on their website as most fast food joints do. Sticking with grilled is most likely your best bet... but IMO I wouldn't make it a daily habit... but that's just me.

Yes it is that bad. Just like most or possibly all fast food.

Not something I would ever recommend to anyone on a weight loss journey at all.

Is this what you are eating everyday? Are you not able to chop some lettuce and tomato and make your own salad and low fat dressing?

Sorry, I don't know what else to say. I'm shocked. But then again, I would never ever make any type of fast food a part of my regular diet.

Fresh is best.

Of course it's not bad when all you're eating is the salad.

Quite frankly, though, counting calories as I am, I wouldn't feel guilty eating a McDonald's meal; it wouldn't wreck my day. Not even close.

Honestly, whether they're low in calories or not, making them at home is going to be a ton less calories over all and it's good to get in the groove of making your meals at home and to get out of the habit of buying food out.

Buy some lettuce and low fat toppings and veggies.
Buy some tortilla wraps, some low fat condimants and grill some chicken.

You can put them in bags and save them in the fridge for a day or two.

The whole thing about fast food places is that their food has a high intake in sodium... that's what hurts.

If you stick to the salads that's awesome. Just be aware of the sodium content with such other items. Because the more salt you put into your system, the more water in going to try to stay in your body. So if you make the choice of getting a different item.. just drink MAAAAADDDD amounts of water. =)

Ok I stay away from fast food because I get tempted, but if you don't have the time than make the best choices you can there. I have the book eat this not that and I love it. I do eat out alot I just research where I should go and how much of my meal I should eat before I go there. Of course fresh is best, but if you on the go go go its better than not eating at all. Calories in calories out no matter what.. Some guys can eat a ton of burgers from mcdonalds everyday, but they just turn the food into fuel. For weightloss I wouldnt recommend it though haha. So I believe you can eat healthy anywhere(and for cheap too. I hate the I can't eat healthy because its expensive saying,go buy a freaking bag of beans-getting off my soap box)
Just do the math. Heres an idea.

Hamburger-250

Ranch Snack Wrap® (Grilled)-270

So I'd pick the hamburger over the chicken wrap. It saves you 20 calories.

Even better the Chicken McNuggets® (4 piece) has 190 calories.

Premium Asian Salad with Grilled Chicken( 300 calories

English Muffin -160 calories

Chocolate Chip Cookie-160 calories

Nonfat Latte (Medium) -110

So just watch your calories and sodium.

here's the thing

what i've been reading about mcdonald's and alot of the other fast food places is that it's not always the amount of calories that' going to hurt you, you might look at a cheeseburger or something like that, and it may have around 500 calories, you figure, hey I can eat 500 calories for lunch, no big deal, when in reality it's a lot of simple carbs and maybe some trans fat and just low low quality food....by my understanding simple carbohydrates (basically anything of a bread type that is white) break down much easier and turn into fat than say whole wheat counterparts which are made up of more complex carbohydrates, so in answer to your question is mcdonald's really that bad, I suppose I don't know for sure, but i would definately do some investigating as to what kinds of carbs and calories you're putting into your body before i made it an every day occurance...also please note that I am in no way an expert on this subject and am just trying to convey what I have read on the matter :) happy losing and good luck!

I eat fast food as part of my diet plan because I'm always on the run it seems. There are some healthy options on most fast food menus. Have you ever seen the movie "Supersize Me"? It's about a documentary from a couple years back by a guy who ate nothing but McDonalds food for 30 days and the effect on his body. It was pretty disturbing. But one of the things about McDonalds that always stuck with me after watching the movie is that you are getting a lot of hidden things in what you may think is healthy at McDonalds. For example, did you know that they wash their lettuce in sugar water to make it taste better? They add a certain proportion of salt and sugar to almost everything they serve to make you crave it. Apparently, the combination is physically addictive and they know it. They call the people they've addicted, "heavy users." Nice pun, right?

Let me play devils advocate here for a moment and say that McDonalds is no less healthy than most other foods that you'll cook at home.

Of course, if you're trying to lose weight, eating salads and berries might be your best bet. Of course there ARE healtier options but that does not mean it's poison!

As far as nutrition goes: With the fruit in a Happy Meal I'd argue that it's healthier than most stuff I cook at home (I know, you might think I'm too old for a happy meal, but let me tell ya, my nephews love me when I bring my bag of toys :) )

There has been tons of stuff made about this, but for some reason people ignore it in favour of talking bad about the places where poor people eat. "I'm better and so should you be"

Sometimes I feel like the whole "health world" is full of people who just hate fat people, but try to morph it into hatred for certain foods.

Back to my point! If you're interested in hearing the arguments for the other side rather than rehersing your own; whatch the documentary "Fat head".

I've been doing this experiment to prove my point (after all, I always like to find stuff out for myself)

I've been doing the Spurlock diet: That is eating only at McD's for 30 days. I'm on day 23 and feel fantastic. I bench press 220 lbs and run 5k in 25 min.

If you have any legitimate theories about why I'm not puking or crying yet, have a look at my diet plan and tell me. I'm honestly curious. It's called mcklas.wordpress.com
