Is it safe to do interval training daily?

I don't think I'm doing HIIT but its some form of modified interval training. I warm up for 5 minutes by cycling pretty slowly and then I cycle as fast as I can for two minutes, followed by walking speed for a minute. All in all it ends up close to 30 min (5 min warm up, 20 min interval, 5 min cooldown). I am 20 yrs old and my heart rate during the two min interval is 155-160 (according to machine) and during the one minute rest it is 140-150. Is this safe to do daily, or should I only do it 2-3 times a week and do 40 min steady state cardio the rest of the week? Thanks for a response.

Safe? Sure.

Just go by feel. If you feel like you're burning yourself out... drop some of the high intensity sessions.

And the closer you get to your goal weight, the more careful you have to be with balancing recovery and intensity.

Thanks for the response Steve. My main concern is that I heard it is not good for my heart to be fluctuating from 70-80% daily as it could lead to irregular heart beat. I think this is not true, but what are you thoughts?

Use common sense

Hi, it is absolutely safe to do interval training, moreover leading researches on weight-loss do recommend interval training. My personal opinion use your common sense ad listen your body as your body the best guide but do not let your ego get lazy.

agree totally with steve it is all about listening to your body. Do it for a few days, if you start to feel tired and lethargic stop for a couple of days and start up again.

Also don't go overboard at the start because you will soon see how quickly you will burn out and find yourself just sitting at home. Keep motivated by doing it maybe 3-4 times a week not everyday.

I wouldn't do it everyday..too tiring. I can't think of any exercise I'd do every single day haha. depending on your intensity I'd be doing it around 3 times a week spaced out evenly for rests..but it really depends on your goals and how you're feeling
