Is it possible to decrease your height at a young age?

Hello everyone. I'm around 170-172 cm (via various measurements),so in order to be "safe" i'll take 172 as my real height. I'm almost 22,but i still ty to figure out any way,to shrink a couple of inches. I don't wanna wait till i'll be 60-70 so i'll shrink anyway.

Don't start the "embrace your height" "women love taller guys" etc. I don't want to hear them again...after all i don't care about women at all at this point of my life.

Anyway,i really feel jealous for guys who are a couple of inches shorter than me,and i get sick everytime i come across to one of them. Please don't ask why i'm jealous of them, but i've got my personal reasons! I should mention, that all my friends are taller than me of course!

I reduced my calcium intake and eating dairy products, just to be safe i won't grow anymore, because it'll make things worse, since i've heard that a man might grow till 25....so are there any excercises,foods...whatever,that will make me shrink a couple of inches?
It's just RIDICULOUS that someone cannot control his height as easy as weight. Just rridiculous...we are in 2013!

Your frame is your frame. The only way of stunting growth are things you will regret in very little time, then for the rest of your life.
My advice is not so much embrace your height as deal with it. I was too short for the sport I did best in, and hated it, my tough luck. In power lifting my additional height was a handicap, same again.
Don't mess with growth unless you want a lifetime of pain. Sorry there is no good news here.

That's really ridiculous man...i REALLY cannot understand, why someone cannot alter his height during his life. It's like God tells you "this is your height, deal with it and i don't *****ing care if you like it or not"...that's really fascistic...being thrown in a body that you dislike? pah!

I just pray that in the future we will be able to do it.

Height can be changed surgically. In the future I expect we will be able to play with DNA Gattacca style, but for now that's it.
I hated being tiny at school then average height as an adult because I wanted to be taller. Now I like being able to disappear into a crowd.
It sucks, but in all honesty if the only thing in your life causing you upset is your height, it really is time to consider yourself very lucky. I know you'll hate this last part, but one thing with being old is the perspective it gives you, and how I am able to reflect on what really was important, and know it wasn't the stuff I stressed about most.

Yeah truth is, height is the thing that upsets me most. I can be in a very good mood, but if i see a couple of short guys at once,i get sick, and i want to puke. i get upset, simply becuase it's the most unfair thing. You will only be able to change it via surgery as you said, but this might be dangerous, and besides that it needs tons of money. i asked a doctor once and he told me about 20000 dollars. That's really madness!!

And yeah,it;ll be great if we will be able to play with our DNA. It will make many people happy.

Watch Gattaca. I think it is brilliant. It doesn't make those playing with DNA bad guys etc. as many do, so the whole thing is just more believable.
I had a similar conversation on here with a guy wanting to increase height. Different heights have different benefits, a tall power lifter is usually called the loser, same as a short marathon runner. Average people often despise being mediocre, basically we're never happy.
I always wanted black hair, my sister had it and hated that the colour was so dominant no dyes would take. I am getting halfway there now, if you can class grey as halfway to black.
Look after your bones etc. You will be the height you will and fighting it will cause you nothing but grief. Ideally find something where this is a bonus, then you'll start to like it more.

Wait wait wait, am I missing something here? Please tell me if I am. You're 172 centimeters which, in my American measurements, comes out to be about 5&1/2 feet tall and you want to shrink? Reading your header made me think you were somewhere around my height(195cm) or taller.

I agree with your sentence. Truth is that besides the fact i'd like to be shorter,if i had to choose between very tall like 6'6" and average,i'd choose very tall. Average really sucks yeah, because as you said it's mediocre, and no one would ever make a comment about your height. If you were very tall at least, and muscular, you'll become a bouncer and kicking short people's asses...but at average height you won't be able to do even that.

172 cm is about 5'8" as i know.
And yes i want to shrink for my personal reasons, because i feel terribly jealous of short people. In my country 172 is almost average, since the average height is 176 cm.
But since it's towards "short" than "tall" i'd prefer to be shorter.
If i was like 180 cm or so,i'd like to be taller. ;)

I guess being average,is worse than being very tall or short!

Um, aside from some kind of drug or diseased-induced loss of bone density, there's no way you're going to decrease the size of your bones.

That's like being angry that God made you black or white or gave you a certain eye colour and not understanding why you can't change that. Maybe one day they'll be able to offer surgical height alterations, but in the meantime, medicine is currently focused on how to manage and cure things that actually matter, such as disease.

Ironically medicine is generally more profitable when it is related to non-essential tasks like plastic surgery etc. So much as your statement is still try in terms of volume, in terms of proportion there is more money spent researching ways to make people look as they want than live better lives.

Actually there is a height decrease surgery by removing bone from your legs. As i said above,i asked a doctor one,he told me that it will cost about 20k dollars, but once he learned my height,he refused to do it...probably he thought i was crazy, lol.

I guess doctors will provide such surgery to people who are really tall like over 6'6",otherwise i don't think so.

But in fact i don't have such problem with my legs and torso,as i do with my head and neck. So i'd prefer to find a way to minimize my head and neck, say about 2 inches...they are REALLY BIG for my height,my head is about 30 cm,and my neck around 10 cm (from the end of the ear to the shoulder)

Your head and neck are roughly in proportion. the distance you are talking about ear to shoulder is around 2/3 of mine, and I am 5' 10" not much more than you are.

If you are looking for faults in the mirror there will always be some, guaranteed. I am only totally happy with how I look because my wife is. When chasing aesthetic, I never was.

Frankie says Relax.

What??? You are 5'10"??? i thought that you were like 5'4" or so because you said "Now I like being able to disappear into a crowd." 5'10" is a little above male average, and it has a safe difference of human average which is 5'6" if i'm right.

Unless you are Dutch,if you are, then yes 5'10" is short since most Dutch guys are over 6' tall.

Average height UK adult male is 5' 9.5" to 5' 10" so I am simply average here.
I have good posture from training which means people often over estimate my height but I am 5' 10" and here that is just average. Also conveniently happens to be considered ideal all round athletic height, so I am happy enough with that.

Another question i have is,why younger generations are taller? When i'm around with guys who are 40-50 years old now,i look at them eye to eye most of the times, but when i'm around with people at my age, most of the times i have to lift my head a little in order to look at them.

It's funny because these guys are taller than their dads by a couple of inches...the dad is supposed to be taller, not the son. lol.

At least i feel lucky that my dad is taller than me (he is 5'10")

Nutrition and ease of life. Those in the aristocracy were historically a lot taller then the prolitariate, because they never had to endure starvation and hardship.
Henry VIII was 6 feet tall so we have had the genetics for height for hundreds of years.
The last few generations have seen life get easier and food become easy to attain so the average height has gone up.

So being tall, isn't good at all with this logic. It means that you are a mama's kid and you lived your life in luxury during your childhood, and you are not as tough as you are supposed to be. lol

Think about it. In most series in TV,i've seen that working class kids were average or short, and aristocracy kids were taller than them. So at least may i be proud that i'm not as pampered as them?
