Is it OK for a teen to take diet and fat burner pills like Relacore and HydroxyCut?

Because I might take some if it is OK....

I am 15, 5' 5''

Hey there, diet pills dont work. If they did then everyone would be thin, just exercise n eat well n you will do well.

I have taken hydroxycut, as well as know many others who have benefitted from them, as well as some that found that they don't do a darn thing.

In MY experience, I found that hydroxycut DEFINITELY boosts my energy level, as it states "do not take within 5 hours of bedtime" and boy are they not joking. I would not recommend taking the dosage recommended on the box (up to 9 pills a day!) I take 2 a day (at MOST 3, if I'm up early and can fit in the 3rd one before 5 hrs before bedtime) and find that it doesn't make me feel anxious at all really, nor do I feel my heart beating any faster than usual (I'm sure it is, I'm just saying that it isn't so intense to notice it). It is a STRONG diuretic, so if you don't have access to a bathroom every 20 min or so, I would suggest holding off on taking it until you did. I feel that water is the majority of the loss I have experienced thus far with this pill, which makes me feel less bloated and puffy.

My friend's experience was slightly different than mine, though. He was taking 2 at each meal (6 a day) and mentioned that he could tell the difference in his resting heart rate, and that he felt nervous at times for no reason at all. Also that he had experienced some chest pain after a night of libations... (Diet Pills + Alcohol = BAD). But he did experience a boost in energy as well as help with his weightloss.

I can't say whether this pill is good or bad, nor would I say just because it has worked for myself and others, that it would be right for you. I can only share my experiences!!

Hope this was helpful!:jump:

I don't know much about those pills, but arent they for an energy boost, and to supress hunger? I know sometimes I need an energy boost...but then again i'm not a teenager. I wish I had my 15 year old body back...minus the flat chest

I read your other posts about wanting to lose your "man boobs" and Belly fat...and I must say you should really find a sport you love to play, even if it's just skateboarding or riding your bike. Something that keeps you active. Maybe you should ask your mom about signing up at a ymca...Oo Swimming!

I'm sorry i'm not much help, but you made me feel young again for a few minutes :)

Its speed, of course you'll lose weight. Hell, you could do coke and lose weight. Eat right, diet and excerise. There isn't a magic pill.

It's easy to say don't do this and don't do that....

Diet pills are not magic, mostly they give you energy which helps you to get up and move your behind longer which will in turn burn off your fat.

I like that idea of taking it slow though if you are going to take them, try a few days at a low dose and then adjust from there.

You're a teenager, still growing, you're going to screw yourself up by taking this crap, and they don't even work that well!

Usually if you go to one of those diet help sites, they check your age to see if you are 18 and up....at 15 your body is still growing and might harm you if you take a pill like that...
I know that my senior year of High school (17-18) I got a heart problem and it was only from drinking 2 cans of diet coke every day...(too much caffiene) So now I have to watch how much caffiene I have during a day or else my heart will have an arythmia/murmur and I'll feel dizzy and lightheaded...This was relevant because those pills have high levels of caffiene in order to 'burn more cals'

Don't try to skimp out and take it the easy way ( I know you don't want to hear that) but just watch what you eat, keep yourself active (even if your walking up stairs everyday or walking a mall helps) and in the longrun you'll be proud and say you were able to lose the weight by willpower or whatever, and not by chemicals and drugs :)

One reason to consider before taking pills is the dependency issue. When you get off the pills (unless you consider staying on them the rest of your life) how will your body adjust? Will you be able to maintain your life style so you won't gain the weight back?

All the "magic pills" used to be based on ephedra. Then they discoverd that ephedra led to serious heart problems for many consumers, so ephedra based pills were banned. So the manufacturers turned to caffeine. Now, some doctors are discovering with caffeine based hydroxycut.

Taking these pills is stupid, IMO. Each pill has around 600 mg of caffeine. This is what boosts your metabolism! In other words, you're fidgeting around so much, you burn off some extra calories. The same thing would happen if you drank 7 cans of Red Bull all at once.

And at a dosage of 2 pills with every meal, that's like drinking 42 cans of Red Bull a day! Now, I used to drink 10 cups of coffee a day, and most people thought that was insane. How do you think your body reacts to 36 cups of coffee a day??

And, as Dave so rightly pointed out, are you going to do this the rest of your life? Would it be safe to do it the rest of your life? Pills like this do nothing more than lure you into the "diet" mentality. They are temporary fixes.

Great point, I've been around many people that have used pills to lose weight, they dont change eatting habits much, just get the energy to work out longer and drop pounds quick. What happens when they meet their goals?? They stop the pills, work out less... still same bad eatting habits and slowly the weight returns.. maybe not all of it, but for the most part they were only their goal for a couple months.

Pills aren't good.. remember getting thin and eatting right is a lifestyle change, you dont want to be dependent on a pill for the rest of your life. Plus you are a teenager, your body is still growing and changing everyday. you can do this, just find the foods you like that are good for you (trust me, you will find some) and stick with them. Add them in the meals and be creative with it. It pays off in the long run, your body will be healthy you will look fantastic and when it comes down to it.. YOU were the one that changed your body, not some pills.

DeepGreen says it great "it's a lifestyle change"!

Good luck and we all are here to help you get to the top of that hill and be successful!!

Wow 600mg per tablet ? I was taking/aiming for 3x200mg servings of caffeine in the day, and I was finding that too much!

I don't think fat burning pills are healthy. You might lose some weight but eventually you'll gain it all back and then some. Jut eat healthy and exercise.
