Is Hiit the best route for me?

Hi all, I'm looking to lose as much fat as possible in the next 3 weeks. I use to be very fit but in the last few yeard have put on about 20lbs of fat and lost a lot of muscle due to a knee injury, work commitments and being lazy. I start a new job in 3 weeks and once I start that job (with increased hours and travel) I'm going to be restricted to how often I can weight train. Although I've put on weight I still am of moderate fitness (1 cardio 2 weight sessions a week)

I can commit for 3 weeks to doing double gym or road sessions 5 days a week (rest saturday, football sunday) is a Hiit program the best thing for me? Is 3 sessions a week really the most I should do?

Thanks in advance

Glenn

Extra time in the gym doen't always mean more fat loss.
Fat loss = a healthy diet and lots of effort in training.

You will find that Just 3-4, 20min HIIT workouts/week will burn more fat than 3-4, 1hour jogs.

So yeah, read up on HIIT. Dont try to loose too much weight in 3 weeks, if you want to stay healthy you cant loose 20lbs in that time.

Thanks, I was hoping to maybe lose 10lbs in 3 weeks, is that achievable and safe doing four Hiit sessions in the mornings and then a copule of weight sessions in the evening?

Its possible, at the end of the day who cares about the numbers. You just wanna look and feel good. With good diet and good training you can change the way you feel and how you look slightly in 3 weeks.

You probably want to lose at the most 3 pounds a week. Any more and you probably are losing water weight which isn't healthy.

Holy &%@#

Just did my first Hiit session (well about an hour ago but i've just about recovered enough to type.........)

The plan was to go for 20 minutes alternet 30 second sprint/walk/jog

2 min jog
30 second sprint
30 second walk
30 second jog
30 second sprint
30 second walk (maybe more like 45 sec)
30 second jog
30 second sprint
long walk home........... honestly thought my lungs would explode and I would die. Felt sick for about 30 minutes after and my pulse still feels high!

Amazing can't wait till Friday, however I think its gonna take a few weeks to get up to the 20 minutes I expected to do!

Will switch on Friday to the warm up then 1 min sprint, 1 min walk, see if I can last longer that way.

Good stuff!
HIIT is very hard work if you do it right. You should get a heart rate monitor to make sure you dont go too mad.
