Is eating at night really that bad in light of trying to lose weight?

My problem is that I always get hungry in the evening/late evening. I've been eating healthy foods but I don't know how much of a difference eating at night actually makes.

I've been switching between a salad (w/ grilled chicken, a few croutons, feta cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and vinegar)

and

A subway foot long (either turkey breast, chicken breast, black forest ham, or veggie)

That is pretty much the only real meal I eat in the entire day. Is it bad to eat 500-600 calories in one sitting at night? I normally end up staying up for hours after I eat (usually at least 3-4 hrs) So considering that does it make a difference whether I eat late at night or in the early evening?

Also, is it best to eat after working out?

What is said is that it's bad to eat right before you go to bed. I think you're fine.
I personally feel it's bad to eat late at night, some disagree, but having a light meal 3-4 hours before sleep sounds okay to me...... why not?
If you're interested in finding more out, I would do a google search on late night eating.....
I've read it, but I think you're better off just reading what the experts out there are saying.

Recent medical studies have shown the time at night means nothing. It is total calories that matters. The reason people say don't eat at night is that usually, people either have eaten their limit already or we tend to overeat or indulge in higher calorie items.

Look at this:

I don't think it's fair to say it means nothing..... I think saying "more research needs to be done" is more accurate.

Snacking isn't bad at all if you're doing it on a consistent basis. Eating less and more often is going to speed up your metabolism in fact.

No, it won't.

It's really just down to personal preference. Some people manage better with several small meals while others prefer fewer large ones. It doesn't affect the speed of your metabolism though.

Yeah mid night meal is really dangerous for fat loss. but it doesn't mean that skipping meal is also a good thing to lose weight... meal skipping may harm your health.

I can't remember what it's called, but I remember Steve talking and posting scientific studies about what I'll call periodic fasting (that's not what it's called, but that's the only thing I can call it right now) where skipping meals was shown to help with weight loss. I'm butchering it, and probably not explaining it properly, but search for Steve and fasting.

Also, saying "mid night meal is really dangerous for fat loss" is just silly.
