"Intuitive Eating"

Anybody ever lose weight by following this idea of just listening to your body? It sounds too good to be true- I've just started trying it out. Just wondering...

This is something I have been working on for the past few weeks. To eat when you are hungry is good, but the important part of it I think is to know when you are full and when to stop eating.
For me I find it hard if someone has cooked a meal for me. You want to show your appreciation and eat all of whats in front of you. Or I find (being on a budget) that if I dont eat all of what I make then I've wasted food and pennies.
If you are paying attention to when you are satisfied (rather than too full or bloated) then you are taking in less calories, which means you have more chance to burn them off!
Its something I'm working on lol.

For me the biggest problem so far has been recognizing my fullness, so I just don't eat enough. This causes me to be hungry way too often. I'm working on it, though. I read that if you've been starving yourself your body often takes awhile to adjust and recognize fullness.

Good luck figuring it out- it is hard to pass up food but just think, if you don't want it why should you really eat it? Even if you've paid for it, is it really worth it to be sick with yourself?

Anyway, my fear is that I'm going to gain weight from this- it seems like such common sense just to eat when you're body tells you to when you are hungry, but I'm so scared that I won't be able to fit into my clothes!

hey i try to eat when im hungry and only when im hungry and finish eating when im full however i struggle to distiguish between whats hunger and whats thirst. what i do i eat my 3 main meals till im full and then just drink water, green tea or coffee between meals but sometimes ill have a tiny low fat low calorie snack. to lose weight all y ou have to do it count calories and exercise

i don't think so.....my body would eat all the good food and still crave some goodies. i have to take charge, here! mind over matter!

hey i think for some ppl they can listen to there body but some people try to listen to there body which says one hting and then the mind says another thing. i think what is good, is give up all the bad food all together and stay away from it for atleast 2 weeks and then after that you should be in control with your body and then after that you should know when to eat and what your body needs

i don't think its really a matter of mind over matter- if you weren't restricting things would you crave them as much? i personally enjoy a good healthy sandwich as much as a cookie- but because cookies are "off limits" i want them more!! so if i think of it all as the same, i can have that cookie whenever i want, well then ijust have the sandwich, because it makes my body feel better...

maybe it won't work for just anyone! i'm still working on it myself. it takes awhile for your body to figure out what it really needs.

i think the best thing io avoid eating the bad stuff is dont have them in your house. it will stop you from eating them!

I think, how much exercise will it take to work off this cookie, compared to an orange or an apple say. The lazy person in me thinks bugger that!

If you are a chocolate fiend try eating plain chocolate as opposed to milk choc. You get more of a cocoa hit for less calories! Just an idea.

If you are doing this then you should stay clear of simple sugars as you will never be full for more than 15 minutes and will end up eating all day!
