Hi,
I've just turned 30 and I'm feeling like this is a good milestone to motivate me in to getting a hold of something that has been slowly slipping out of my grasp: my weight.
Five years ago I had an accident at work that had me off on Worker's Compensation for 3 months. During that time I decided to quit smoking, so I gained a lot of weight. It was the first time in my life that I had gained so much... even close to that much! By the time I shamefully wandered in to a weight loss center, I was 234 pounds. Being that I'm 5'8, I should be more about 150 - 170, so that put me just about 75 pounds overweight. Well I spent the next 7 months on the weightloss program, designed to teach people HOW to eat rather than just supplementing meals with fake food or getting us to eat bizarre amounts of things to trick our body's in to weight loss. This was an important factor for me when choosing a weight loss program! I did not want to just gain it all back and I knew that logically that would mean I would need to learn how to eat as naturally as possible. I knew that all of these programs would say things like, "LOSE WEIGHT NOW and KEEP IT OFF FOREVER" - how else would they sell their products over other people's?! But I knew, there was no guarantee- this was will power that was needed and that was not something that a person could purchase along with their weightloss shakes.
I have kept my weight off for the most part, but have recently gained back more than I have in those 5 years because I quit smoking again. Well of course along with that came 10 extra pounds on top of my excess I was already packing around. Now I never did get down to 150lbs originally - that just seemed crazy?! My body didn't like going beneath 175, and as much as I pushed it, I finally gave up because I liked my body right where it was. Well, so now I want to try to push a little lower beneath that number and I would like to shoot for 165. Right now I'm starting out at 190, so that's 25 pounds that I need to lose.
Coming on here is a part of my motivation. The thing that helped me through the first time around to lose 70 pounds was writing on a forum and support. I hope that I meet some nice people on here who are interested in helping me the same way that I would like to help them. I tell you, it's what got me through!
So here it goes! I'm excited to begin.
