Interview with a Fat*ss - Enough is Enough - My Diary

Hi All,

Well here it goes, I have never written publicly or at all for that matter. I am 23 years old now and I was in the Army until last May (2010). I used to be chubby when I was in high school, lost it all to join the Army and all that weight has gradually crept back up on me. I am now doing my Masters and I think I have been using that as an excuse.

I currently hit the scales at 238 lbs (108.2 kg) which places my BMI at 29.7. I am committed to lose all the weight by 01 May for all the summer fun. My goal is 185 lbs (83.9 kg), which I hope is not too aggressive. What do you guys think?

Since I was fat when I was a kid, I tend to get moobs and a stomach when I gain weight, that will be GONE! I will be using the 4 Hour Body’s slow carb diet plan with a cheat day.

I thought to myself a few weeks ago, that it is getting ridiculous, I have all these clothes I don't fit in, and I don't look good anymore. That was my "Harajuku" moment.

I have some pretty unorthodox dieting techniques that I have used in the past, (for example: to lose weight for the Army, I ate corn flakes with a protein shake 3 times a day for 6 months). Lost 40 pounds and gained muscle. I don’t yoyo diet so much as I forget what I am eating, combined with my sedentary lifestyle. After that, it just creeps up and up and I forget about it.

P.S. : I expect and WANT criticism. Drag me through the mud, I can take it! Give me the cold hard truth. Don't hold back.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

What is your current height and weight?
My current height is 6' 3" (191 cm) and I weigh 238 lbs (108.2 kg).

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I would be at my target weight, and have an established eating routine.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes, but I "feel" hungry, if that makes sense...

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
No, except when drinking.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
In my mouth.

Yes

Do you eat as a reward?
No

Always

The walk to the bathroom.

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
A picture of myself, and hopefully you guys!

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
I will buy myself something absurd when I make my goal weight and remain there for 6 months. (A new BMW M3) :driving:

That really made me laugh! I'm the same way. I need to be monitored at all times or I eat everything in sight.

Your cornflake diet sounds ridiculous--Hope you wont be following that one again!

I am probably going to tip the scales 10 pounds heavier tomorrow...

I made a promise to myself to eat slow-carb for 6 days starting tomorrow. Lets do this.

Hi schleißheimer,

Congrats on deciding to do something about your weight but I agree with Sunflower, your diet sounds ridiculous, where is the fruits and veggies and whole grains, dairy and everything else healthy?? I get that you probably want to lose weight at any cost but it needs to be more then a temperary fix doesn't it? If you eat healthy it will probably be a better chance that the weight stays off.

Hi Guys,

Yeah I know it seems odd, I just eat what seems to sound good that day. Vitamins and minerals I try to supplement with a tablet, not a solution but a stopgap measure. My issue isn't really keeping the weight off it is more of watching what I eat. I think if I pay attention in the long term I can avoid a creeping up.

I am not about fast weight loss or absurd diets, just what works for me. I tend not to cook, and to nibble on things without noticing. If I cut that out, I know I can be successful. I eat enough protein daily, (min 80 grams), to try to discourage muscle loss. When it gets warmer here I will add a workout routine.

I wil keep you all posted. BTW, i love reading about everyone's success, really keeps me motivated.

Sunflower, I just saw you are in Portsmouth. Kens Fried Chicken has got to be the most blatant ripoff of KFC I have ever seen haha, I love it!

Hey schleißheimer!

I'm new to the forums like yourself, and have just begun my goal of weight loss! You say you want honesty, so I shall giv'er!

I'm a student myself- I know it's hard. You have classes, sometimes late at night, your balancing intense course loads, thesis writing, grant writing, scholarship writing, probably some RA/TA work, and even a regular job. You might be sitting infront of a computer all day, but by the time you get home, it's late, and you're exhausted! When i did my masters I would dread coming home knowing I had to make dinner and clean up. I hated taking the time to pack my lunch, and go to the grocery store...UGH! it was too much work on my already busy life!

I've actually just started my PhD and have consciously decided to make healthy eating not a goal, but my life! I've always been interested in vegans (I tried it for a few months), and healthy eating, but like I said, I put it on the back burner because I was too tired. But now, I'm pulling the big guns out!

In the past what I have noticed worked for me (and still works for me), is making ALL MY FOOD. Eating out is so yummy, it's so convenient, and works so well in a busy school schedule, but it is 9/10 times the worst choice. Making your food allows you to know what goes in your food, and it also allows you to control the portion size (i find eating out I eat more, as more is given too me).

However, making your food IS a lot of work. To do it, you have to plan! I like to go to the store 1-2 times a week, with an idea of what I want to make. I go in thinking of 2 meals for dinner (and lunch left overs), breakfast, and healthy snacks. This way, when I get home at night, I have stuff that i can easily make! And then package the next day for a lunch and snacks that'll be good for me! I also try not to cut anything out, or focus on one thing- I think for me, making sure I have a balanced diet, with moderation is the key! Fiber, fruits, veggies and good protein are all key staples to a great diet!

Making healthy choices available to you is some work, but it pays off! Soon it'll be just another thing you do during the day, like brushing your teeth!

As many people have said on here, making small changes is a great way to start! I've found that when I fail, it's because I try and change everything at once...it's hard. Hopefully some of the things I said can help you...but we're all different, we all know what works for our body and our lifestyle! :)

Good luck!! Keep us updated!

Hi Tik! Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Forgive me board, for I have sinned! I haven't updated in 2 days. I drank 1 liter of beer yesterday and noshed on a pretzel. I have turned into a german.

Salami Sandwich 400
Raspberries 120

I am somewhat disheartened because I haven't been losing weight as quickly as I wanted. I can only fear the scale each day :D... This has only strengthened my resolve and I will redouble my efforts to lose 15 kilos of fat by march. I am emboldened, and will update daily my progress.

Hey there!

Eh- you're allowed to treat yourself to something every now and again! Heck, weight loss is tough- we don't want to be starving ourselves of all the food we enjoy! I'm of the mindset that you need to break every now and then! :)

I wouldn't worry too much about what the scale says. I know it can be really disheartening to weight yourself after a week of hard work and not see it more - or even increase! But remember there are lots of things impacting your daily and overall weight changes
- the time of day
-what you've eaten or drank that day and/or the day before
-the clothes you're wearing

You should also remember that if you're training quite hard, you could be gaining weight that is muscle! Which is good! :)

I think it's important not to rely on the scale number too much! While it is a good indicator, it's not always the most accurate or reliable. Go with how you feel, how your clothes fit, and things like your stamina and energy!

I would also suggest measuring your arms, shoulders, chest, waist, hips and thighs. Record those measurements, and then go back in 2-4 weeks and remeasure! You'd be surprised at how much they can change- even if your weight isn't!

Good luck! And remember- every bit of work is a contribution towards your goal - regardless of a pound lost, not lost or gained- if you're working on your exercise and diet, you're doing great :)

Hope to see more diary posts!! woooo!!!

I can drink all the diet soda you're NOT drinking!
Commendable; that particular February challenge.
I'd probably ditch my diet altogether if I were no longer allowed diet soda.
