Intense running and weight training?

I had my first experience with weight lifting on Friday. A well-learned friend let me tag along with him to show me the ropes and properly explain the lifts. Let me give some background information first before I get to my question.
I have been running since last September trying to lose weight and have done a pretty good job, going from 230 to a current weight of 173. While health and weight are one of the main reasons for running, it has also turned into a fun hobby. I run 5.6 miles/day, 6 days a week---2.8 in the morning and 2.8 before going to bed. Since losing another ten pounds or so before actively deciding to gain mass is my current goal, I will choose running over weight lifting if I had to.

Is it healthy to continue running six days a week while lifting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday? Since it is has been hot here in Oklahoma recently, I start my morning run somewhere between six and seven o’clock in the morning to beat the 90 degree temperature, and I will be lifting at about 4:30 in the afternoon. I don’t think I was fatigued from running when lifting Friday, but there isn’t much to compare it to since that was my first time lifting. There was some fatigue in my legs Friday night and Saturday morning when I ran but nothing overwhelming. It has been two days since lifting, but my arms and shoulders are still a little sore. That could be due to the newness of the weights or from overdoing it due to running I suppose.

To sum up my question: can running six days while lifting three days a week coexist?
 
I run a mile walk a mile 7 days a week and workout everyother day...whether it be 4 times a week or 3 times a week...With how much your running thats going to be rough I think..

You might not lose weight for a while because its hard to gain muscle and lose weight at the same time. (you probably know)

Seems to me that if you run before you lift, its a little harder then normal.

I'd suggest maybe taking it a little easier on the days you lift maybe 2-3 miles? I dont know how your body works though if you do fine with how much your running..More power to you then.
