ummm.... depends on the type. If cardio, I'd say anything that gets your heart rate over 80% of max.

For cardio any sustained exercise that gets your heart rate over 80% max is pretty intense. For weights it would be an exercise using weights that caused you to "fail" ie. not be able to complete a final repetition in your last set. Say you were bench pressing 200lbs and doing 3 sets of 10 repetitions if you were unable to complete the 10th press on your 3 set that would considered intense. When doing weights consider lowering your rest period between sets and exercises to keep your heart rate well above your resting heart rate.
