Insulin resistance question

This is a stupid question cause I really don't understand the subject.

But my question is about improving insulin resistance and if it's possible to improve insulin resistance when one loses weight? Or is it now just screwed up permanently cause and now calories will store more easier in fat cells because they are more sensitive to insulin?

Yes, I can be improved.

Essentially, your pancreas is creating the insulin that you need to "digest" the glucose in your body.

The bigger you are, the more the pancreas has to work to get the right amount of insulin in your body. As you lose weight, your pancreas doesn't have to work as hard to get the right amount of insulin in your body. Additionally, balancing the amount of glucose in your blood allows you to help your pancreas (as you lose weight).

For example, a form of trying to control the glucose is to eat a carb with a protein. A banana (carb) with peanut butter (protein). Toast (carb) with eggs (protein).

Whole grain carbohydrates are better if you consume them, because the glucose they create enters your blood stream in a slower and more steady state, instead of a white (refined) carbohydrate.

Additionally, exercise will lower the glucose in your blood because your body is consuming that glucose for energy (the exercise). A lot of people who have insulin resistance exercise after a meal if the meal was unbalanced for that reason. Additionally, regular exercise allows you to burn any excess glucose just in case.

There are also drugs that will balance your insulin resistance. The most common is metformin (Glucophage). It does work, but it's not a cure all -- you still need to change your diet, lose weight, and exercise regularly.

Ideally, you would be able to improve your insulin resistance through diet and exercise, and resort only to medication when your health is really at risk.

If you've been diagnosed with insulin resistance now, it's better to take care of it, instead of letting it turn into pre-diabetes or full-blown diabetes.
