Injured my self doing shrugs

I felt a slight pop at the top of my shrug, have been lifting the same weight w/o incident for 5 months? It basically locked my neck up for the last 3 days, anyone know why this happened and how long I should wait to continue?

P.S. I wasn't doing anyting stupid like rolling my sholders, just shrugging.
 
Where was the "pop"? Near your chest or shoulder?

If it was near your chest, it may have been your sternoclavicular joint...if it was your shoulder, may have been acromioclavicualr joint. If there is noticeable swelling, you need to ice it. If you have stiffness, you may have pulled a neck muscle that needs a couple of days rest. If it prolongs over a week, seek medical attention.
