Information

Hey guys,
I want to get some information from you guys. I was wandering if Red Kidney Beans is good to eat. My aim is to lose fat. Does it contain lots of fat to eat it or is it OK to eat.

Thanks guys :)

most beans are great. You generally get mega fiber w/a good size dose of protien. Depending on how you prepare them, you get very little fat and sodium. Plus, there are a bazillion different types of beans to try.
I think it's best to buy them dry. When you buy canned, you get tons of sodium, like 20-40% DV per serving depending on type. Besides, when you buy dry, you don't have to worry abt preservatives and crap. Also, if you buy dry, you can buy in bulk at most health food stores - comes in handy if you find a bean you really like.

Another thing - sorry to ramble on. You can make a big pot of bean soup and freeze some of it. Comes in handy for those nights you roll in late and Taco Bell is tempting you. (I should take my own advice here )

You can make yummy salads w/beans (again, I should take my own advice, my husband is going to read this and say "yeah, how ARE those salads coming?")

awesome advice guys. thanks for all the info. I was trying the canned beans but now i guess i'll get the dry ones :). I usually make my beans by adding some vegitables like tomatoes n stuff and then adding some salt in it. Tastes great and has negligable fat in it. Also does sodium and the preservatives in the canned beans hingers in the way of fat loss or is it oK to keep buying the canned ones :). I am a university student and in a place where these bulk things r hard to find so i thought maybe canned beans would be OK?

Thanks guys :)

well, I don't think the sodium and preservatives will hinder your fat loss, but cutting back on soduim is going to be for your overall health. As far as preservatives go, I look at it like this - if you're going to all the trouble of working out and eating healthy, do you really want to add mostly man made chemicals into your body when you can aviod it, y'know.
You can buy small bags of beans if space is a concern.

that is so true LOL :). I have another question. How much fat is acceptable in a meal. Like is 2-3 grams of fat acceptable in a sandwitch and yeah is cottage cheese OK( if i m aiming for fat loss) to eat. Thanks :)

hmmmm. Don't know if I'll be much help here. I don't shy away from fat at all. I just try to choose what kind of fat I eat. Fat from meat and nuts for instance. And esp tropical oils. I like to add canned coconut milk to my smoothies.
Just remember that even while trying to lose weight, fats are an essental part our diet. It's not something to be feared, just controled - lol.
as far as acceptalbe grams per day, maybe someone else can answer that.

recommended fat intake is 20-30% of total calories consumed, some go as low as 15%. its best to divide these up during the day during meals.
