Info on push ups plz

I'm an 18yr old male..5,11 ..abt 150lbs... frst year in college:dreaming of going frm nerd to normal. I decided to start working out...some of my frnds told me to start with stretches, push ups,sit ups, pull ups.etc..but the prob is my arms are too weak...im able to do 2 reps of 10 sit ups but cant even manage 1 push up or pull up :(( ..how the hell can i increase my arm strength?? im thinking of buying some dumbells..how much lbs must i go for(if weights indeed are the solution) ??..I aslo need some tips on losing some flab frm my belly(THE main reason i plan to work out...)

I remember not being able to do even one pushup.... my fiance taught me this trick actually... he had me stand a couple feet away from the wall, lean forward until I was against it (so now I'm leaning diagonally, arms partially extended touching the wall), and do vertical pushups until my arms were exhausted. I had to do that a lot haha. That was while we were still gym-hunting :p

The easier option of course would be to use gym equipment. I'll bet someone wiser will be along to tell you more about the joys of free-weights and stuff but there are machines at the gym to help you work your arms and pecs and all those good push-up muscles. Does your school have a gym you can use?

Do pushups with your knees on the ground until you are strong enough to do proper ones.

The only way to get better at them is to keep doing them!

Thanks for the tips guys..and sadly..there are no gym facilities in my college...and i still cant afford a membership at the gym in town...saving up for it...might get there in 4 months...it would also be of great help if if u could tell me if i should go 4 the weights or not

The weights would be good for you motivationally at least, as if you spend $$ on equipment your ass better use it..

As far as increasing pushups, do them at an angle as proposed, I would try to do ten with your hands on the footboard of your bed. As you get better, you will decrease the angle, and when you get good, you will do them with your feet on the headboard. (you're a nerd, you should understand the physics in this).

For pull ups, just hang on the bar in the pulled up position as long as you can, letting yourself down as slowly as possible. After a while of this, you will build enough muscle to do them proper.

For that belly fat... well I would say you need to gain some muscle and burn that blub... But remember you can't burn fat in an area of your body like you can build muscle, so while the sit ups are great, no matter how many you do, you will still have a layer of fat over those abs. Cutting calories and running will get rid of that fat.
