India Trip- question about possible weight loss any ideas?

Hey there Fitness buddies,

I am a vegan (with exception to the occasional egg) and healthy soon to be 17 yr old, chap- I'm 11 stone and I go to the Gym a minumum of once a week and have been doing so for the past 4 months and I am just a little concerned about an upcoming India trip/holiday.

I'll be there for 6 weeks presumably eating mainly curry (why does that sound racist? ah well..) and I'm just a little concerned I might lose alot of weight.

Is this likely? or could it be the other way round because of the high cholesterol food?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Rob.

LOL, you knobsicle.

Unless your diet will be changing dramatically, in terms of what it's made up of, I don't think you should have too much of a problem. There are a number of tasty vegan foods in Indian cuisine. (I went through a 2 year vegetarian phase myself). Chances are your protein intake is already relatively low (for the people you'll run into around here, anyway), so eating a diet that's primarily carbohydrates shouldn't make any huge difference in your energy levels or health.

As to whether you gain weight or lose it..that's generally a simple matter of calories in vs. calories out. If you remember to eat enough (and not pig out because you're on vacation), you'll be alright. Just get your calories from fruits, vegetables, and complex carbs whenever you get the opportunity, and try to eat nuts in moderation, if you can find them. (I honestly have no idea as to what kind of access a tourist in India has to fresh, quality food).

Other than that, relax, it's yo vacashun. :D You can always make up the little declines later. Hope you have lots of fun. ^_^

Edit: The cholesterol content of a person's diet has no known effect on weight gain or loss. However, foods that are high in cholesterol often are also high in nasty fats, calorie dense, low in micronutrients (vitamins/minerals), and bad for you in other ways as well. So try to avoid the kind that you know are all messed up. There are several exceptions, of course..but generally speaking, avoid them.

Having said that, as a vegan you don't have much to worry about. Almost nothing in a vegan diet has any significant amount of cholesterol in it. Generally speaking, cholesterol only occurs in animal products.

Wow!

Hey there!

I live in Australia and travel to India each Christmas so I know about this.

Actually, many of my blog articles on my biggest blog were written in India and about holiday and travel exercise.

Don't worry, India is not all curry. Not by a long shot. Tell me where you are going and I can reccommend some places/strategies. PM me if you like.

India weight loss..

Hey again ppl,
I didn't really get much of a response when I first posted this, and I just wondered in your opinion, is it likely I will lose or gain weight over the 6 weeks In India eating mainly curry so no high fat foods like cheese and I'll be travelling across the country so will always be on the move.

What do you think?

It would be really helpful to get you fitness knowing folk's opinions on this as I'm leaving on Tuesday!

Cheers.

Rob.

I guess, juicyrooter is referring to eating curries at relative's houses. You are a vegan here anyway and since Indian curries are made from lengumes, you woudn't be deficient in protein. As fare as not to lose wieght, juste at enough food. You can buy all kinds of snack over there too, I am sure or take them with you.

Hey Juicyrooter,

How is your Indian trip going on?????? So how is your health......did you lose any weight or gain??

David.

Hi again,
Got back yesterday and am finding my town and everything very odd indeed but that's far from the point, the point is I lost almost 1 stone which I'm actually ok with as I think I look better, the main reason for not wanting to lose weight before was because I need some for gaining muscle effectively but maybe I had too much fat :p
