Hey every one. So recently i came upon this site and was inspired from all the photos and stories that i have read. All my life I have been overweight and now that im 17 I feel like if i dont have much to live for.Sense I can remember I have always been jealous of a cousin who is only 6 months older than me because she has always been the pretty one and has a great body. Every time I go shopping I feel like crying because I never fit into anything that I like and she has always had the best clothes.(tear) I understand that god made me this way for a reason but I cant handle being overweight any more. I really wanT to lose 60 pounds before my senior year in Aug. for I could feel confident with my friends. For some reason I have always been the FAT one out of all of them and I always tell myself im going to lose weight but I never manage to do it! My family never supports me in what I want to do and when I tell them im going on a diet they always burst out laughing. So this is why I came here to get all the support I need..
Thats all i have to say today and im trully sorry that I wrote so much but i needed to get this off my chest..

Welcome!
First off, you have to set realistic goals, and have a plan to reach your goals.
There's lots of methods to do this, but different plans work for different people.
Personally, I think the best plans include eating healthier and doing exercise at least 3x per week.
Many people also recommend keeping a food journal, and write down 100% of everything you eat.
But... enough details. You'll find more than enough information here to get a good start. If you have any questions, please post them (but have a good look around first)

Welcome Laura! This is a great place to get support..I would recommend to educate yourself properly about nutrition. That is going to be really important. There is a lot of good info on this forum but there is a lot of misinformation too from people talking about what they are doing and it may not always be whats best for you. Honestly there is no easy way. Losing weight is very hard but it is going to make you feel so much better!

If I were you I would start by googling a BMR calculator just to get a base of about how many calories your body needs. It will also be important for you to start reading the nutritional content on your foods..Calories and serving sizes.. and make sure to stay near your BMR number. I find it helpful to keep a diary on here and log my food daily. People comment on your diary and you will build your support team that way.

I wish you the best of luck and like I said.. educate yourself on nutrition and you will be a lot more successful :) Be conscious of what you are putting in your body and it will make a huge difference. Also good nutrition is only half the battle.. you have to exercise!! Get your heart rate up.. Good luck reaching your goals!! :)

Laura, welcome!!! There are lots of folks here struggling with the same issues you are and we are here to help you and support you. start by writing down your motivations...all the reasons that YOU want to do this. Not for anyone else, but for you. Also, list out your goals OTHER than a number on the scales (to be able to run x distance, fit in a certain pair of pants, etc.). Make these intermediate goals you can reach soon.

Look around the site and educate yourself about nutrition. What your body needs and why. Understand how certain carbohydrates, proteins, etc. are used together by the body, what they do, and what foods have them.

Also, educate yourself about exercise, cardio and resistance training, and what each does and why BOTH are important. Learn about Basal Metabolic Rate and calculate your own. Understand Active Metabolic Rate based on your activity level.

Now, once you understand this (about 30 minutes of reading on this forum), you are equipped to make a plan that WILL WORK!!! Make a plan everyday based on X number of calories (whatever is right for you based on what you learn here) and certain percentages of those calories from protein, fat, and carbs (complex and simple).

Knowledge is the key to success. Know what your body needs, how much it needs, and what foods have those things. Make a plan, set goals, and know that even though you may hit plateaus in weight loss at times (the body adjusting to the changes), your plan will work. You can do this!!! And we're here to help you!!!

To be honest, I have had depression my whole life....personally..

I know what you're feeling right now. I didn't have many friends, maybe 2 to 5 in my life.
Maybe that contribued to me putting on weight.

But the most important thing, above all, is to BELIEVE in yourself. I was at almost 30% bodyfat myself (which is the start of 'morbid' obesity) and I'm down to 14-15% bodyfat now which is ideal.

If you asked me when I was 80 lbs heavier, if I could lose it, I'd probably tell you you're crazy. Remember a journey starts with a single step. That is important. You have to make a single step, or you will not go anywhere. Even baby steps, just keep going forward. I know it can be discouarging. I pleata'd for 6 months before I Tried something different and broke through it.

When you get to your goal weight though it is a great feeling.

You can do it. And don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!

Best of luck to you!
Kevin

The important thing is that you've taken the first step! This is honestly the best place to get support and motivation. I've been overweight most of my life as well. I dieted on and off over the years. I completely understand how you feel. Just believe in yourself and if you ever doubt that you can do this, come back here and find comfort and support in people who have struggled just like you. I wish you the best of luck in everything. I look forward to seeing you progress! Welcome! :)

Hi! I've just joined this forum to find some support too. I'm been dieting all my life and tried different types of diet. Now i'm trying another new diet method. Hope it works. I wish you best of luck too. Don't give up hope yet.
