Improved fitness

Hey guys, my name is Jeremiah 5ft 9" 165lbs (going for 180lbs).

I love sports and soccer is my major one. I know people think anyone any size can play soccer, but then take a look at the professionals, you'll see they are all fit.
That is why I'm in pursuit of great fitness.

I don't normally last 20 minutes on the soccer pitch before I start to feel so weak.

But then I realized too much of cardio workout just before a match didn't help at. Cardio should be done maybe 6 hours before the match. The main preparation that improved my game was moving around with the ball just before a game and making sure my muscles are relaxed.

also... take a very close look at your diet. 90 minutes of near-constant activity groups you on the outer rim of the endurance athlete circle. You get weak mid-competition because your body runs out of the proper nutrients to burn. That feeling of weakness is your body switching its efforts to burning your reserves. You'll notice you get a second wind after that crash, which is your body running to its max potential on the reserves.

As an endurance athlete you should look more into eating fats (healthy ones) so that your body can burn those during matches instead of burning your reserves. Someone like iron-man Ben Greenfield is a good reference point for the type of nutrition you're looking for. The guy is nuts, but really really smart. I often model my diet plans for endurance clients off of his habits.
