"Immature Squat" and strained Hip Flexor

So, I was diagnosed by a trainer today as having an "immature squat"; Basically, my glutes are weak and my hip flexors are tight... most likely from sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day and rarely doing front/overhead squats.

Anyway, I plan to focus on getting my glutes and hip flexors where they need to be by doing wall squats, over heads, bulgerians, samson stretches, etc... however I think i've strained my right hip flexor doing squat cleans a week ago. So my question is this: Do I continue working and stretching my hips, or should i let it rest up and not aggravate it anymore??

good point :) i assume your going light on your workouts? if not you should be think of it like a warmup only and thats it.

I'm currently doing scaled back crossfit workouts. Todays WOD was:

For time:
21-15-9 Squat Cleans @ 135
21-15-9 Ring Dips

I did (taking reasonable rests):
10-10-10-8 Squat Cleans @ 95
10-10-10-5 Ring Dips

I warmed up with 10 shoulder pass overs and 10 slow wall squats, and cooled off with the same, plus samson stretches... the hip flexor is feeling better and the wall squat seems to be getting more comfortable. I'm slowly getting to where I can really push it. :sport:
