I'm new!

Hi all,

I am new here, but not new to dieting. I have about 100lbs. to lose. I had the lap band surgery 2 years ago and it did not work for me, for the reasons mentioned in many threads on this forum. I am a binge eater, and the lap band allows me to eat all I want of my favorite binge food: chocolate. They didn't tell me this when I signed up!

Anyway, I'm back to the regular stuff...counting calories (1500 to 1800 a day unless I binge) and exercising (about 30 minutes of jogging twice a week, 30 minutes of weights twice a week). I am a very slow loser, and get discouraged easily.

I have a history of drug abuse which has been replaced with compulsive eating...or maybe I briefly replaced my compulsive eating with drugs, and now I'm back to what I do best. I know a TON about calories, exercise, nutrition, diets, etc. Knowing a lot does not make it happen, though. I'm here for motivation and support. And of course, looking to make friends.

Peace!

welcome to the site - It's interesting I've read often that with addictive behavior, be it alcohol, drugs, gambling, or even food, people will trade one addiction for another... are you currently in any type of program for recovery from your drug addiction to get to the root of the problem?

Start yourself a diary -it's a great place to get support, and you might find some motivation by reading others diaries - but generally motivation comes from within yourself - by coming up with the reasons why you want to lose weight..

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I do believe people trade one addiction for another all the time. I am in recovery for substance abuse, I've also quit smoking. Compulsive eating is pretty much the only bad thing I do for myself anymore. In recovery, many people are fat, and they mostly feel okay about it. I mean, if you trade in crack for food, you actually are doing much better and your life is better. But I still think I can have a happy life without destructive behaviors at all! I don't want to settle. I want it all.
