hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I must say i'm very excited to finally find an active forum with advice and support.

Over the next 12 months i'm determined to transform not only my body but my lifestyle so i'm sure I will be tapping into the knowledge you all have but to start with I wanted to at least say hi.

I've struggled with my weight off and on since highschool and whilst its taken the better part of 10 years i'm finally at a point where i'm tired of being tired, i'm tired of my body being sore, i'm sick of not being able to buy nice clothes or even just feel comfortable when going out with friends. One thing I do have in spades (for now at least) is determination.

I have worked closely with my doctor and we have developed a plan utilising optisfast and moderate exercise to kickstart my weightloss with an early transition back to real food and portion control so as I don't become another statistic for the bad bad non realistic vlcd diets ... and to my complete and utter amazment i'm already 2.5kg lighter.

Anyway enough rambling from me, i'm very much looking forward to interacting and getting to know a lot of you =]

Working with your doctor

Way to go! Working with your doctor shows that you are committed to losing weight in a healthy way. Let us know more about what your doctor recommended. Do you only have the Optifast or do you get to eat real food?

I had the option of doing either 4 opti shakes a day or 3 shakes a day with 2 small snacks for the first 6 weeks. This is predominately to get my metabolism working again because my continued weight gain is largely associated with not eating enough and when i do eat eating crappy food. I have monthly visits to my doctor who will monitor my kidney and liver function together with blood pressure, BMR, BMI and all that good stuff that just makes you want to cringe... At the end of the six weeks we will revaluate how i'm going and at that stage I can either continue for another six weeks on that plan or we can transition some food back in.

My biggest concern about the optifast diet was that everything that I had read indicated that its great for rapid weight loss but hard to stick to, overly restrictive and that when food is reintroduced a lot of people have struggled to maintain. It was on that basis that I'm not going to cut food out completely hence the two snacks which at this stage consist of a small peice of fruit at morning and afternoon tea.

My doc has been fantasic and whilst the plan is somewhat generic i do believe with his oversight and the knowledge I have already gained, not to mention just a touch of common sense the weight loss will be permenant.. so here's to a fresh start and a new me I say ... :hurray:

Glad you're here :) Did you see there's a journal/diary thread? You may want to start your own. It's a great tool for tracking your progress and venting when necessary, lol. Also everyone can know where to find you to pop in and say hi. Welcome to the forum :waving:
