I'm back

I abandoned ship in May, after I was hit off my bike. I just ate rubbish for a few weeks, and then I was off backpacking around Asia!

I don't know if I explained before, but I was tired of being stuck in a rut, so I quit my job in the UK, and set off on an adventure. I vowed to stop stressing over insignificant things, and to go with the flow more.

Well I did go with the flow, and I did let go of a lot of unnecessary stress. I had the best two months of my life, and would still be on the road, but an opportunity to work in Hong Kong came my way, so I decided to go for it.

Here I am in Hong Kong now! Crazy place! Amazing food (uh oh). I arrived in HK a month ago, weighing 150 pounds. Not great, but not awful considering for two months, I stayed in hostels and ate out for every meal! I don't think I gained or lost anything travelling, because although I was eating a lot, I was also constantly walking around and doing things.

So one month into Hong Kong, I've managed to lose 5.8 pounds, which is great! I did this through clean eating and low carb for three weeks, but I then got bored and went on a crazy binge. It was a low point when I consumed an entire bag of choc chip cookies, and went into a food coma and woke up with my laptop on me and cookie crumbs all over myself!

Now I am trying to just be sensible, but not go so sugar and carb free that I end up with cravings and binging. I'm also walking only, no underground for me. It helps that I live up 100+ stairs with no elevator!

I will track progress on here.

So today, I am 144.2 pounds, or 10 stone 4.2 pounds. I would like to get below 140 pounds (or 10 stone) by this time next month. Baby steps!

Stats:
Height: 5' 6"/ 167cm
Weight: 10 stone 4.2/ 144.2 pounds
UK dress size: 10 on the top and 12 on the bottom
US dress size: 8 on the top and 10 on the bottom

Welcome back Lara.

And damn you really are on an adventure. My trips to Walmart seem like an adventure to me, so Hong Kong must really be something.

Welcome back Lara. WOW! You sure have switched things around. How exciting. Well done you on losing weight since you moved to HK! I have only been there once, but the markets & the fresh produce were sensational. Walking everywhere is a great idea. I'm looking forward to hearing a little more about your new life. Cheers, Cate

Nice to see some familiar names and faces again! I hope you're all doing well. I will check out your diaries..

Strange day today.. I slept through my alarm, and had 20 minutes from getting out of bed to getting to work! Amazingly, I was only ten minutes late! Didn't have time for breakfast, so I waited until lunch to eat. Lunch was a small bowl of rice, stuffed peppers and beansprouts. For dinner, I had a plain yogurt, banana and one mrs. crimbles chocolate macaroon (had to make up for that missed breakfast, eh)! Just remembered that my boss also gave me a blueberry muffin today, but I split it between four people to save my waistline :)

Oh and highlight of the century: my colleague told me that I didn't need to share the muffin, because I'm already "so slim"! I was like whaaaaaaaat? I'll take it, but I'm worried about his eyesight :p

My brand new scales are telling me that I've gone from 144 pounds this morning, to 142.2 pounds this evening. Odd! Anyway, I expect it'll be back up to 144ish tomorrow morning.

I did a lot of walking today, as I was trying to open a HK bank account, and the bank assistant sent me back to work four times to get different documents. Annoying lady, but I was pleased to do some walking rather than sitting at my desk.

Ate ok today, banana and cherries for breakfast, some kind of very nice meat and aubergine dish for lunch and a small bowl of rice (a lady cooks for everyone at work, luckily quite healthy Chinese dishes). Dinner was lettuce and pork from the deli. Feel like I probably need to eat something else later, and I might have a cheeky chocolate bar because I'm well under my calorie allowance for the day. Not nutritious, I know, but the little chocolate bar is already in my life, and it wont eat itself :)

Back up again today, as predicted. Must've been that chocolate :) I'm 143 today. I'm hoping to drop a steady pound a week, so I'm not disheartened at all!

142 today, I think I must be dropping water weight, because I can't have lost 2.2 pounds in 5 days. Day off today, and I went for a nice walk and cooked up a big batch of yao guo ji ding (Chinese dish with chicken, veg, rice and cashews). I also bought some really lovely ripe pineapple, which I've just been snacking on a little bit to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I will probably eat yao guo ji ding for dinner for the rest of the week! Could be much worse.
