First, I want to thank all who answered my fitness questions in October. My fitness goals have been put on hold. After 3 weeks of serious training, dedication and a loss of 7 lbs., I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have since had a masectomy, lymph nodes removed and my first chemo treatment 2 weeks ago. I will have to have to have 7 more chemo treatments and 5 weeks of radiation. Good news is my ct scans and bone scans are negative.
With my oncologists permission I have been walking 2 miles 3x a week. I am back in the gym, doing cardio and weight training my legs only. I am limited at the gym because my chemo port is in my chest wall so I do not think it is wise to work my upper body. I can not work out as often as I like on the week I receive my treatment because of fatigue but when I have energy and feel myself I work out.
I am continuing to do this because I am still wanting to achieve my fitness goal I just don't have as much control over how often and when I can work out. Also, the treatment I am receiving makes one gain weight. The doctor told me if I continue to do cardio and weight train It will be beneficial to my stamina, symptoms and weight maintenance during treatments.
Thanks again for all of your previous help and hope everyone had a happy holiday.
