just joined the community today. hoping to get some tips, motivation, inspiration! i have been struggling all summer long in my weight loss journey. have read countless articles on weight loss. have talked to friends, co-workers, family. i have been doing everything i am suppose to, but i feel i am not doing enough or i am doing something wrong! i have cut back the calories. i drink 100 oz water a day. i eat every 3-4 hours (something small) i walk, i jog, i joined zumba, i have dumbells at home, i have no sweets. i know this is a slow process, but, have only lost 9 pounds since may. help!

Hi Lisa. Welcome. Are you eating enough calories? How is your energy level? Often, people eat too few calories to sustain, and they experience tiredness and a general unhealthy feeling instead of weight loss. So, if you don't take in enough energy (calories) to sustain your body it will go into energy (calorie) conservation mode. You won't lose much weight and you'll just feel crappy. You can get a good measure of your lean muscle mass/fat mass and the amount of calories you actually require by getting a metabolic test and a VO2 Max test. They'll be able to tell you how many calories your body requires to survive and how many you need to eat to facilitate weight loss, and how many calories you need to eat to maintain your weight. The VO2 test will tell you how many calories you burn while doing activities. This knowledge can help you understand the right type of exercise to help your weight loss goals and can help you maximize calorie burn. Good Luck!

thank you for the feedback and yes i have heard that before that perhaps i am eating too few. which i cant believe but maybe.....my energy has been better since i have been taking a b-12 and vitamin d supplement. but sometimes, i do have to force myself to get out. its just a very slow process and i get frustrated hearing other people say oh i lost 12 pounds this month. and its taken me 3 months to lose 12 pounds!

Losing 12 lbs in 3 months is great! It's sooo much better than not losing weight or even gaining weight over that time period!

I can tell you right now that eating too few calories will not put your body into "starvation mode" or "conservation mode"
