Honestly I believe the best way to lose weight is to not eat healthier than you want to, or exercise more than you otherwise would. If you change your diet, once you've lost weight, or especially before you lose weight, you can end up splurging and eating the foods you love. If you exercise to lose weight, it's easy to get discouraged and stop, or stop just because you're too busy. If you do neither (exercise more or change dietary habits) then once you lose weight, it's much harder to gain the weight back. The best thing to do is only eat half of whatever's in front of you. Even though it's delicious, start asking yourself after every bite, whether you are still hungry. Don't stop eating if you're still hungry, no matter what. It's a bad idea and it usually leads to eating more later. Just don't keep eating just because it's yummy.
I noticed that when I only ate half my food, I was completely satisfied and didn't actually need any more food to fuel my body. In one year I'd come to only eating a quarter of what I used to eat, though I still ate pizza and the like nearly every day, and I never resorted to exercise (mostly because I don't like exercising). That year I lost 40lbs. And it does take a while for your body to adjust. After I lost 40lbs, I'd gone down two sizes, from 14 to 12. The next year I gained about 15 because I'd moved in with a boy (they eat so competitively! I couldn't eat as little as I wanted to if I was going to eat the foods I wanted!!) and then after that was over, I lost another 35lbs...without exerting hardly any effort, since I already knew how to do it. After that, I'd gone down all the way to size 4. Body fat has to redistribute.
And now I'm skinny and modeling. People find it hard to believe I was ever overweight, especially with my "bad" eating habits. And mind you, I'm a stressed person, what with college and work, and I have terrible sleeping habits...and I'd been overweight since I was pretty young, up until I decided to seriously try to lose weight after my senior year of high school. But when it comes down to it, if you take in less calories, your body can't store fat anymore. Here's what I used to look like (until weight loss started at age 18), and what I look like now (at age 21):
