Ideal weight?

How do I know what my ideal weight to shoot for is? I look at BMI charts and health charts...but the ranges are so huge on some and the BMI charts obviously dont factor in that muscle weighs more than fat.

I know a lot of people pick their weight that they remember feeling most comfortable. However, for me, I banished focusing on what I weighed for about 8 years (yeah, not good) ~ so I don't know my ideal or what I weighed when I was most comfortable....AND to top it off, I never did as much weight training and focus on muscular building as I am now.

So, how do I know what to shoot for? Apparently you could say, when it feels right, but by looking in the mirror, I think I'm skewed in my visuals....

I'm 5' 5'' and female if that helps anybody. Thank you. This has really been bugging me.

It is difficult to pin down an ideal body weight. I am 5'5" - when I was 110 pounds, I looked almost sick. I gained a bunch of weight, then lost 50 pounds and ended up at around 130, with way more muscle. At 130, I was almost as skinny as before, but looked much better and healthier (b/c of being in shape).

Personally, if I have a fair amount of muscle on me, I do well around the 130-140 range (which I would kill to get back to), but I have seen women the same height as me look like chubby in that weight range, even with muscle.

Don't focus too much on the pounds, focus more on body composition and clothing size etc.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I know it is hard to not focus on that stupid scale...and i have noticed that those who weigh either more or less than me, can look totally different.

How about this - excuse my stupidity - what is the ideal body fat % for a woman 30 yrs. old?

sorry, i found it!

In my case i was mostly comfortable with myself when i was underweight.. And i still wanted to lose even more weight even at 110 lbs. I'm now at 113(ish) and boy what would i give to lose these 3 lbs and some (workin on it).

I'm below 21% body fat btw.. besides the whole fertility deal for females, what are the negative sideeffects of having low body fat in the case of being that way due to eating right and working out??? Sorry if this isn't spot on topic btw

It depends. I am 5'6" and weight 128 pounds. When I am in really good shape (more lean muscle than I have now) I weigh around 135. I'd focus on a range of numbers in both the body fat % and scale numbers.
