Ideal Plan for Me

Hey guys - I registered here looking for some help.

I'm 15, male, ~6ft, and weigh ~85kg. I need to loose weight, around the belly and elsewhere. I am a strict vegetarian, and lactose intolorant so dieting is no trouble, my diet is already as good as it can be. I recently bought a bike, and have only been out on it around 6 times since i bought it, around 2 months ago, on the weekends only. (because im still in full time education). I've also been doing crunches every night for around 3 months.

I've seen some weight loss, but none recently. I think me not exercising regularly is the problem. I only go on the bike some weekends, and it's usually not for long - around 3miles and only ever in the early morning. I'm not confident enough to go out during the day alone, so I prefer to do it as early as possible, before I eat.

My 7 week holiday period starts next week, and I was hoping to do as much virorous exercise as I can. I've got nothing planned, only a possible 1 week holiday towards the end of the period. I need help - what should I do?

I would like to go out on the bike, every morning (is that too much?), early, around 5-6. I'm having trouble waking up at this time at the moment - I think it's just me creating a routine, because at the moment I don't wake up until 7.15. I have no idea how long to go for, and how many laps of the park that I go around (2.5miles each roughly), or how fast to go. I have no speedometer on my bike, and tbh can't afford one at the moment. I really need to set up the routine of waking up early. I go to bed at about 10PM at present. I would love to go to the gym, but I tried to register at many in my area and they all told me I was too young and had to wait a few years. At present, the only time I get to go to the gym is on Friday for around 40 minutes in the morning, at school(supervised) - and I won't be doing that in the holidays.

Can anyone please help me?

(PS. Sorry if this is the wrong section I posted in)

spend some time reading the stickied threads...

and do have a conversation withthe people who feed you about your goals...

losing weight - especially about your age, involves adequate nutrition...

1. Being that you are 15 years old I find it difficult to believe that your diet is "as good as it can be". Why don't you look around, read some stickies and some threads. Talk to your parents about what foods are in the house and what they are preparing for you. Take count of what you are eating for a few days and then get back to us with that one.

2. Crunches are going to get you nowhere. I suppose you were expecting them to make your stomach smaller? The body doesn't work that way. You can't decide you want to make a particular body part smaller and start doing crunches to achieve it.

3. You are young and actually not overweight. Don't get overly preocupied with how much you weigh. Do you like riding the bike? If so, there shoudn't be any reason you can't ride everyday. Exercise should be something you enjoy. Are there any sports or activities you like to do?

Please, do not prejudge me by my age. My meals are balanced, and I cook them myself. I do not each crisps, etc and haven't for 3 years. I don't eat chocolate, icecream, etc. because I am lactose intolorant, and haven't for 4 years. I have breakfast every day, and for lunch have two pita breads or ciabattas with salad and a soya or nut patty, both at 15g of protein each. I am not malnutritioned, and I'm not going to foolishly "not eat" to try and make myself slimmer. I know crunches will not "make my stomach smaller", and I understand that I need regular cardiovascular exercise. I believe light weight training, with a regular exercise routine, will help. That is why I have been trying to create a routine of doing crunches ever night, and have suceeded. Also, please do not try and talk me out of trying to loose weight, "your fine how you are", etc. I do not like many sports, nor many outdoor activities. I am not overly preoccupied, just extreemly interested.

I am sorry if I've come off rude or big headed in this message, if I have portrayed myself as such, please accept my apologies.

I've been a vegetarian my whole life and I'm still nearly 50 pounds overweight right now. It doesn't matter WHAT you eat but HOW MUCH you eat. You could eat nothing but vegetables, beans and brown rice and still gain weight. You have to keep track of calories.

I manage my portions - and have cut down over the past 6 months. I don't go back for seconds anymore, and make sure that there is alot more protien than carbohydrate in my meals.

I do not think that my diet is at all the problem - the problem is I do not exercise.

I think you've already gotten great suggestions. I'll reiterate. Keep track of everything you eat - you might be surprised what sneaks in there - and count the calories. Talk to your parents about your weight loss goals. Do sports/activities that you enjoy - and riding your bike every day is fine. And read the stickies for more info.

What else would you like to know?

As suggested, write down everything you eat. Open a free on-line Fitday acct and plug in what you are eating. It will give you a calorie total. At 6ft I'm guessing Fitday will tell you, that you should have around 2500 kcals a day or so. Check it out.

Put in what you do it. I realize it is all healthy stuff, but everything contains a calories.

And yes you do need to exercise. Most of your problem could be that you are not toned.

I know that the gyms won't let you join at your age, but ask if they have a trainer that you can talk to. That person could help you get set up with a routine you could do at home.

Ok, that's what I'm doing now, thank you very much for your help.

Also, just to make sure im doing everything right, Cholesterol isn't on any of the packages of the stuff I've entered in - is that OK?

Also, before dinner, I've had 1413cals. Is that....ok....?

it's total calories consumed during the day -not when they are consumed...

so 1400 out of how many calories for the day..

Results for today.

What should I do now....just keep on recording? I don't know what to do and I don't think I am going to get anywhere only recording what I eat....

You need to figure out your BMR - that is, how many calories your body burns just sitting there. Then you can figure in how much activity you are doing. Then you will know how many calories to eat in order to lose weight.

This website should help:

I've calculated my BMR at 2000 - I've tried 3 different calculators on the net and they all say the same. So 2000 * 1.37500 = 2750

I don't know how many calories I burn bike riding - I go for about 26 minutes, 3.63 miles, before I eat in the morning.

search for harris benedict formula...

that will give you a better approximation of number of calories -

your bmr is the amount of calories you'd need were you to never get out of bed... you need to factor in activity calories as well.. :D

Don't get too obessed about a specific number though - it's not an exact science -you need to adjust as you go along but you're better off starting higher on the calorie end than lower -so you do have room to adjust l ong term.

being aware of what you are putting in your body and what a portion size is- however, a very important thing to be aware of...

And do spend some time reading the stickied threads -this information has been covered...
