icy roads, walking for exercise

I was walking for exercise, then winter dumped slush and ice on my town during a blizzard, slippery side roads now where I walk, so I have been just doing indoor exercycle. Then today, a eureka moment! Search online for ice cleats and there are all sorts of ice cleats, $15 bucks or so, to slip onto my walking shoes/boots, to give me solid footing on ice! Just passing on a tip for others in a similar situation.
