Hey,

I'm a bit nervous posting this, but I am really looking forward to loosing weight. I am turning 20 this year and in the past few months I have allowed myself to gain excessive weight. I weigh 202lbs. I would really like to weigh about 170lbs by June, is that a realistic goal; could I weight less by then?

So far I have started running and cutting back on junk food.

What can I do or What do I need to do in order to loose this weight in a healthy way.

Thank you, I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Hi and welcome.

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started.

Welcome to the forums. :)

While it's an ambitious goal, it's certainly attainable by June with a lot of work.

Cutting out junk food is a great start and you'll likely see progress right away as a result. But myself and many others have found that the best thing to do is to keep track of all your food intake. Yes it's probably a lot of work at first but it makes you accountable for what you eat and you're less likely to overindulge.

You should definitely check out all the sticky'd threads at the top of each section for a lot of useful information concerning nutrition, calories, and of course exercise.

Glad you're here and stick around for sure. :)

Edit: 2 minutes late hehe :D

Glad to hear that you have already cut off your junk food in your diet plan, in order to meet your weight loss goal that you set within 6 months. It can be your ideal goal if you have self-discipline, strong determination and self-motivation in your mind always.

Do not ever give up when comes to lose your body weight, some people are just hardly to make a success in their weight loss plan due to the inconsistency in their weight loss plan.

Good luck to you, Rosiel.

Always eat breakfast. Taking the time to eat could prevent costly mistakes as the day progresses; skipping this important morning meal can lead to an out of control afternoon appetite, oversized portions, poor food choices, and overeating, even later on into the night. Plus, going too long without eating may cause your metabolism to slow down. If you can't eat first thing in the morning, a healthful, mid-morning snack is a good idea. If you are not hungry in the morning, it could be a sign that you are eating too close to bedtime. Set a cut-off time for evening eating (such as 7 p.m.) and you will probably feel more like eating in the a.m.
