I want to build muscle, why is it so damn hard!!!

Hi All!

I want to build muscle. I am naturally a lean person (ectomorph), so it is pretty hard for me to gain any muscle mass. Can anybody give me any tips on how I should go about building muscle, and a diet that would be most suitable for this???

I have tried researching it online but now I am bit confused. I do not want to waste anytime doing the wrong workout or eating improperly.

Some other questions that I have...

Should I significantly increase my caloric intake??

Should I just eat proteins, or eat everything because it is hard for me to build muscle mass??

Should I do any aerobic exercises or just stick to weight training?

How often a wk should I workout??

Also include anything else that you think would be informative and helpful..

Thanks!

nel

Dunno if you'd want to start a beginner striaght off with carb cycling, might just be too much, many people don't want to put that much effort into their diet. Just eat healthy and if you want to gain muscle eat at a surplus of calories. :p

What part of "or if that's too complicated, do this" did you not get!? :p

But, I honestly don't find it at all complex. Just make a lil spreadsheet and it takes care of itself. Pick from one list of foods morning, before and after workouts, and pick from another list the rest of the time.

Then again, what I consider complicated and what most people consider "complicated" do not necessarily intersect.

yeah, it's not that hard. but a lot of people quit being fit because people on forums tell them it's all or nothing (not saying that is what you did! I'm just going off on a bit of a rant here :p), you have to do this, you have to do that, there is no middle ground, etc

Yeah, definitely. There's no have to this or that. I totally agree that the majority of people can achieve the body they want (and good health!) simply by consistently getting quality exercise and eating quality foods, without any tracking or figuring whatsoever. And further, that the "industry" overcomplicates things on purpose - to make a profit, often to the detriment of the public.

Of course, I personally believe that for the kind of people who quit over details, cooking up 4 days worth of lean meats in the oven while you work on something else is probably "too much", despite what should be the obvious realization that one is in fact saving a great deal of time, in the long run. :drooling1:

I didn't read any of those links but, I am an advocate of Starting Strength. I was able to put 100 lbs on my squat in less than a month on the program. I was eating basically a paleo diet and whole milk and all I did was what is on the program. Paleo is the cleanest you can eat and this will help. Limit your junk and supplements. Use your money for food. Train very hard. I've had to lay down after some of my squating sessions. Be patient. Since your skinny, eat untill your full and if your not full, eat. Find calorie dense paleo foods such as nuts, and nut butters and get raw milk at a health food store if you can. If you think I'm crazy, google paleo diet and raw milk.
