I thought it would fly off me!

Hi,

I have recently taken up a fitness regime as I'm totally fed up feeling tired and overweight.
I wasnt sure where to post this (sorry mods) but as it stands I currently weigh 248 pounds.

When I started I weighed 245 , other than cutting out the crap, sweets/pop/crisps etc my diet hasnt actually changed much.

I allways thought that being a man of the larger stature the weight would drop off me doing the below.

Every other day I hit the gym and do a 5min swift walk to warm up then jog at 5mph for 10 mins (when I started 2 weeks ago I couldnt manage 3 mins!).
I then walk for 3 minutes and jog again for 10 minutes finishing with a 5 min walk to cool down. After this run I am completly shattered btw.

I then use the weight machines doing a full body routine consisting of 4x15 of the following

seated bench press 30 kilos
seated tricep pull 30 kilos
seated leg extention 30 kilos
seated push offs 110 kilos

standing 30 kios bicep curl using the machine.
standing 30 kilo tricep push downs (same machine)

I then end it with some assisted sit ups 5 x 15
I also have a small swim to cool off after.

Looking at this workout do you think im not doing enough of something or too much of something else as I have trained in the past (a long time ago) and am thinking the weight should be fling off me.

All in all I do feel alot better though, and recently my bp readings are comming down too!

Thanks in advance

Paul

Paul -
1st do you weights before your CV. If you want to burn fat, your only doing CV to burn off calories, so you should lift 1st, then burn up any extra energy after.

you need a good weights program. something like
squat
dealift
bench press
lat pull downs
seated row
shoulder press

That will do you for the 1st few months just to get you started.

As for CV - do your warm up, then try putting the speed up by 1.0 or 0.5 every 30secs. then when your really really tired go back to a walk untill you can do it again.
Never run for a time or speed to loose weight, use your body to tell you when your finished.

maybe you should look at your portion sizes if you not loosing weight. If you can post up what you eat on a typical day it will help us see if thats where the problem it.

Paul,
If your not seeing results, more than likely it is your diet. How many calories are you eating? What does your diet consist of?

Hi Guys,

I appreciate all your feedback, I'll attempt to answer a few questions,

I am a 34 year old (male) and have been on bp meds for the last 7 years or so.
When I first joined the gym they were adament I shouldnt life any heavy weight or do any strenuous cardio too.(particularly above head lifting).

After a few weeks I wasnt seeing any real gains but didnt feel like i was really breaking a sweat at all (i used to do alot of regular excersise when I was a teen!)

I understand that they are only trying to cover their butts should I keel over on the treadmill, but I thought I would take things into my own hands as nobody really knows your body as well as you right!

Dont get me wrong Ive only been back at the gym about two and a half weeks now but under my own workout, my resting heart rate has dropped a bit and my bp is down too :)

The gym I attend has a small free weights area but its allways banged out so I avoid it and use the assisted machines.

Ive allways been a big boy but untill a few years ago never fat, but allways overweight according to the bmi scale!

I do like my food, but due to work commitments can only eat 3 square meals a day.

I love fruit and eat a bit of it, in between meals.

I think its possibly my portion sizes and i eat way too fast too, as my lovely wife keeps telling me.

Again thanks for all your help, I look forward to keeping you posted.

By the way should I definatly put the cardio at the end of my workout, as I have to fit both weights and cardio into the same gym session.

Thanks again

Paul

p.s. I have had my thyroid tested and all was ok last time they looked.
