I really don't want to take before pics..... why should I?

I'm fat, I hate my pictures, they embarrass me. I'm not ugly or horribly deformed, or grossly obese, but I'm fat. I weight 290.
I'd like to know why everyone takes before pictures of yourselves.
Somehow, deep down, I feel that it's somehow motivational, but I can't really figure out why.
Give me a few good reasons to take before pictures, and I probably will.
Thanks.

There's a never ending circle on this board that goes like this; People see pictures of before and afters from other members and get their motivation to do the same from there. Once they also lost weight, they wish to motivate other people by showing their own transformation.

You don't have to post before pictures if you still haven't lost anything, it's pointless. Just watch what other people have done, do it as well and come back to this section in a few months when you're a brand new person ;)

For me, taking the before pictures made me realise how big I really was. I'd never seen myself the way I looked in the pictures, and it also gave me a good kick in the butt.

It's nice to have a comparison as well, after you start losing weight you can look at your before pictures and think 'Wow, did I really look like that'. It's nice to find the changes and realise that it's not just the number on the scale that's moving.

And in the end it's motivation for others, as knuck said. And I agree with keeping them for yourself as well until you have started losing. Take them, keep them, and once the weight starts coming off, post progress pictures. You'll be surprised how many people will be able to see changes in you that you might have completely missed out on.

Hi

I don't mean to sound creepy, but I enjoy when people have pictures up. It lets me see how well they have done and how well I could do if I put my mind to it. I have my pictures up and people commenting gave mea boost ofconfidnce and made me want to work out the last few pounds.
You don't have to put up pictures. You can lose some weight and then post some and then post finals. As soon as you lose some of the weight you will start feeling better about yourself. Like me, I feel a million times better.
You can do it!!

Just do it, man. It really helps to keep you motivated. When you feel down, you can look back at your progress and it will inspire you to keep going. :)

I know how you feel--I hate taking pictures too, but it will be so awesome to have more tangible evidence of your transformation.

I only wish i had more decent photos of me at 330lb, i only have small hard to see ones, and its annoying.
I lost 180lb and they put me in magazines and on TV but i struggled to find those 'before' photos in good enough quality.

Just do it, but keep it to yourself, cut your head off if you post them etc

I really wish I had taken some of myself. At one point I had a few where I did the whole front, side and back in my jog bra and shorts but I erased them and now I kick myself for doing so. I would love to see a side by side comparison of how far I've come.

I didn't take any "before" pictures. But everyone has "before" pictures surely by default: Christmas, Birthdays etc.

You don't need to be stood in the same position for people to see how much weight you've lost.

I need mine.

I need them for a reality check: "Am I really THAT big?!"

I need them for motivation: "I don't want to look like that anymore/again!"

I need them for comparison when I do lose weight - tangible evidence.

But like other people, I keep my "before" photos to myself until I have weight loss to show. :)

I agree that you don't need to be stood in the position.

However, some of us avoid cameras like the plague when we're at our larger weights, and so won't have decent photos to compare. Or if we do allow ourselves to be photographed, we hide behind something/someone. :)

it's good to know where you've been so you know where you want to be... and when you get there... it's gonna be sweet.. then you can look back on the before and say "hey before picture...i don't ever want to look like you again." if that doesn't motivate you i don't know what will...

I was always the one behind the camera in my house, so yeah, no pics of me much either other than the odd one

That goes without saying, but I'd be very surprised if someone had NO photos of themselves.

You'll never be able to go back in your head, once you've started traveling down this weight-loss road, and fully picture how big you were before, and what that felt like, unless you have it documented somehow.
I used to hate taking pictures, posting pictures of myself, showing them to other people, etc. because I was so big and so uncomfortable with my own skin.
Now, those are the kind of pictures I show off, because I know exactly how far I've come from there, and other people can tell as well.

Nobody can force you to take pictures of yourself, but I think it's a good exercise, and I think you'll feel differently as time passes, and you begin to drop the weight. Even if you don't post them here initially, take them for yourself, because they really are great motivation.

I mean you don't have to share the world if you have to. I found taking my first picture when I was at 266 lbs very sad sad moment and I did not want to take it. The moment I took it I told myself this is the last time I will see myself EVER again.

I was camera shy when I was heavy, I did not want my pics taken so I rarely have pics of me except when I started taking a picture progress because for me week by week my endurance went up and my weight started dropping and I did not see progress, but when I look at my pics I took every week I saw the progress and I stayed by it week by week then months and it went on from there. Looking right now at my first picture I took, right now it felt like it was yesterday when I took it, but I couldn't believe how fat I look
