Well day 1 week 1 again. 03/12/2001

I am starting a diet today and I hope for the last time. I have managed to diet in the past but stopped after reaching my goal and then put it all back on and more

I am required to do fittness test for my job. The standard I must achive is to run 1.5 miles in 11 min 30 sec.

I tried yesterday and my achieved 14 min 14 sec . This is my slowest time ever. It is no coincidence that I am at my heaviest weight ever.

I am 5' 11" and 228 pounds
BMI = 31.8 and that puts me in the obese range

I am obese and I look it I want to loose weight to be heathy, fit and to look good. I dont want to lose my job either (but I have got away with it for years so this is not an immediate incentive)

I will get some progress photos on as I go along

lets see if I can do it:newbie:

Welcome and good luck! Previously I had tried diets and exercise I never found it enough - it's the lifestyle change that put a whole new perspective on getting healthy. Keep us posted!

Philip, May I ask if you're a police officer? Just curious.
but that is a pretty big incentive.
Starting running.. a lot....
you'll be okay! I know you can do it.
DO not procrastinate though, this is too import for you to put running off.

Hey Phililpb :) You can do it and I know you know you can do it! Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

Hey Philip - you've done it before - you can do it again! We are here to cheer you on. GO GO GO You know you want to go for a run right now.

Just finished my run (albeit slow) and feel fantastic!

Thank all for the welcome.

well I have been out running you will be pleased to know but I dont feel fantastic. Stiff legs and chafed thighs but I am expexting that to start untill your body starts to adapt to doing exercise

stretching and massaging your legs a bit will help eliminate the soreness.
You probably should be stretching anyway.
Keep up the good work!

Slow and steady progress and good stretches will help keep the aching down to a minimum. Good luck! As Jennifer said, we're all here to cheer you on!!

It isnt a question of If you can do it, you have to know you CAN do it. When I started my journey I had to lose about 40 pounds and that seemed like just a huge task, like the unattainable task, but here I am almost a year later and 42 pounds down.

It is all mental, psychically you CAN do it, the only thing that holds people back is their minds telling them they cannot. So, just keep your eye on the end result and keep on pushing!

Are you in Chair Force? :)

I have some Army experience, and the run on the PT test always gave me trouble. I also generally had trouble making weight, until I developed an eating disorder. Ah, good times.

Good luck on your fitness/weight loss journey!

well first Moday of my "journey" (if that is the right word it is only a journey if you get to where you want to go)

first proper weigh in 224.6 lbs

Monday morning will be my weigh day

Well it will not be in no time.

I can see it will take at least six months of hard work. I feel like I am at the bottom of a very large mountain looking up.

But I have made a start and if I dont give up on the way I will get there. I can see my life will need to change and this will be painfull at first. This is where I need to focus on my aims and goals and not focus on (or give in to) the discomfort on the way.

Yes, sorry -- I was thinking of you in comparison to myself which is really insensitive to your personal situation. You are totally right about the beginning being painful, I really think that is the hardest part and is something I am really struggling with as I restarted recently. The good thing phililpb is that you are being realistic and have a good idea of the will and effort it will take...plus you have tons of support from many people here and I hope we can help you along the way!
