I Need Help!!

Ok I am 17 years old
185 lbs, and 6'1
I need to lose weight to wrestle this year at 171. So i have about a month or 2 to lose a good 15 pounds with out losing to much muscle.
I do not have a gym membership, how ever if needed i could purchase one.
Besides cutting out the sodas and junk food, what would be the quickest way?
Running long distance at a slower pace, or fast 1 mile runs?
Please Help
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Read the stickies in Health and in Men's health.

Th way to lose weight depends alot more on you, than on the "way" you seek.

deep statement for a 17 year old, but here's the deal. IT IS GOING TO TAKE SOME WORK.

Don't take any pills!

well you want to keep your muscle you have now, you should start a lifting routine for muscle mass maintenance. wrestlers should lift anyway.

as for diet, this will be the deciding factor if you make weight or not. considering you arent forced to dehydrate and starve before the weigh in(dam wrestling coaches).
now listen. you will have to eat very clean. provide your body with nutrients, tons of water, the minerals it needs. your diet MUST be spot on. look into the nutrition section of this site.
you will need a caloric deficit to lose weight. 17 lbs in 2 months is pretty much. thats around 2 pounds a week...you can expect to lose some muscle even with a lifting routine. dont let this discourage you though!!! you can do this!!!
you should meet the deficit by dieting and cardio. i am not going to recommend SS cardio over HIIT. there is so much controvorsy about it...i'l let some of the geniouses chime in.

if I were YOU, and i absolutely had to be 171 in 2 months, i would start a strength training program, eat the healthiest I POSSIBLY COULD, PUTTING THE MOST EFFORT ON DIET, plan out how much of a daily deficit i will need, and leave the rest to God.

.

thanks for the advice, but i have a few more questions.

I dont get much sleep, usually about 8 hours, so will getting more sleep help lose weight?
Also, what about taking creatine supplements to keep muscle?

And lastly, i will be taking weight lifting next month in school, so im hoping i wont lose to much muscle and just lift then to maintain muscle mass, how ever i hope to be about 175-179 in less than a month.

So honestly, does anyone recommend that i should just run my ass off?

The cardio will help with the weight loss but it is probably more important to maintain/build muscle. Try to lift enough so that you can only do 3 sets of 10-12 reps. Do some HIIT training 2xweek.

Don't know much about creatine but I believe there is a sticky thread on the forum....have a read.

Not sure whether sleeping more will directly help you lose weight however getting enough sleep is imperative to allowing your muscles to re-build and getting your body to recover. The amount of sleep you need can vary from person to person however it is generally accepted that 8-9 hours is optimal.

Very important also to increase you protein intake either by natural foods (eggs, chicken, tuna etc) or with protein supplements. The protein is used to rebuild muscle and is very important in a cutting diet.
