I'm 18, about 6'2 and weigh around 270lbs. I'd like to get myself down to aroud 210-215 or so. I've decided to put myself on a good weight loss diet and start exercising. I've been researching it for a few days, but a little personal help wouldnt hurt either.

I went to this website that I found in a forumite's sig on this forum

And I discovered that my BMR is 2810.

So bascially I'm trying to come up with an effective dietary schedule to stick to. I'm having problems on picking what foods I should eat for each meal. I'm going to go for a good walk every morning (which will progress into a run once I get more physically fit and in shape) then do some weight training around lunch time to help lose fat + build muscle.

So I'm curious if some of you guys that know more about this stuff than I do can give me a kind of mock schedule to get me started, and I'll make small adjustments if needed to fit into my personal needs. I just need to know what are some smart food suggestions to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and inbetween snacks. I've read that its important to eat several small portioned meals a day to help boost your metabolism.

Also, what are some good suggestions for supplements to help? I was also thinking about some protein shakes. My ultimate goal is to lose weight, but also build muscle. It'd be kinda nice to be proud to take my shirt off around people or when I go swimming, haha. Thanks a lot for any help you guys can give me to get me started on the right foot.

You seem to be on the right track its a good idea to eat more meals during the day, most people tend to starve themselves in order to lose weight and then try to gain muscle, but this only causes one to lose muscle and not fat, which will not help in your objective.

Eating right is extremely important if you wish to gain muscle. I would recommend increasing your protein intake. Taking protein shakes during the day is not a bad idea at all.

Here is just a rough idea about what kind of diet schedule you must have:

6 Meals a day

1. Early morning: Breakfast
2. Late morning: Snack
3. Afternoon: Lunch
4. Late Afternoon: Snack
5. Evening: Dinner
6. Night: Snack

Try to avoid fats as much as possible. Don't completely cut them out as your body needs them and it's a good idea to treat yourself every once in a while. Just make sure you don't get carried away.

Some people do well eating frequent meals, but it's not necessary if that does not fit your lifestyle. There is no truth to the common misconception that frequent meals increase your metabolism.
You should learn as much as possible about nutrition so that you can plan your meals, but just to get an idea of how to go about it, you could start by looking up a meal plan on the internet. Suppose you decide you want to eat 2500 calories per day. Then google 2500 calorie meal plan. Here is an example.

I think its a good idea for you to buy a Wii and Wiifit. Play it until you get some sweat. Have fun and Lose Your Weight
