The diet that works - now this is really drastic =- and unconventional...

is a lifestyle change....

where you keep track of what you're eating and pay attention to portion sizes all the while eating the foods you love...

Oh yeah and the benefit - it stays with you for the rest of your life...

The cost to you - is the amount of brain cells that you'd need to expend to go to the nutrition forum and read the stickied threads as well as the stickied threads in On topic and exercise.

Diets do not work - lifestyle changes do...

Hi Lizzie;

I'm new here. But I am not new to yo-yo dieting and I can tell you that I have tried almost every weight loss diet or "Trick" there is and here is my best advice to you. I always make sure I have breakfast NEVER EVER skip Breakfast. Make your breakfast count. By that I mean make it high in protien as this will stay with you and keep your blood sugar low thus keeping you from reaching for the wrong foods. Fibre is also important as this keeps you full in the morning. A typical breakfast for me would be for protein - 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese, protien shake, or a 30 gram protien bar. Fibre would be 1/2 cup of a high fibre cereal like All Bran or Fibre One if very good. You don't have to eat it with milk, I some times put it in a snack bag if I'm on the run. Summing it up, I am not on a diet. I now make my body work to digest everything I put in my body. Thus, I don't eat white flour products, only whole grain. I eat very little fast food (high in fat!) and I try to eat as much fruits and vegetables as possible. Food is fuel and good food choices are like high octane for your body. My Breakfast is usually the highest calories for the day. I find that it keeps me from overeating the rest of the day. You say you workout at the gym too? Just make sure you get your heart rate between 65-85% and you will burn good calories. It's the same theory, make your body work to digest make your body sweat at the gym make your time there count. Now I'm not saying you don't workout like a mad person but I've seen many people go to the gym and hop on an elliptical on level 1 for 30 min and never break a sweat. What's the point? Hopefully, I have given you new ideas. I know you will get to your goal weight. There are a lot of helpful people at WLF. I would love to support you in any way I can. Chow for now!:cheers2:

I'll be your diet buddy!!

I would probably just reccomend smaller portions and stay away from cheese and meat and dairy and eggs...as much as you are comfortable with because they add cholesterol to your diet and fat.

fruits and veggies and beans all the way!!

woo! ----good luck!!

Welcome Lizzie,
As far as diets go, I can never stay on one, so I have discovered that I need to be able to "blow it" once in a while, but for the most part I try to just eat reasonable protions and have lots of fruits and veggies. The recipes pages have lots of yummy lightweight stuff, got some great new lunch items.

Just try not to blow it all the time, and I have also found that this board is great because it gives you someone to be accountable to.

If you need us we will be here.

Good Luck,
Brian
