I may have a problem..

Well this is my first post and I come here for some help about a possible issue I may be having.

I am 22 and I have always been overweight. I am 5'7" and a bit over a year ago I was almost 200 pounds and in about a 35" waist. I have been exercising a lot and eating pretty well the past 6 months or so and today I am at about 155 pounds and I'm at a 28" waist. The problem is that I hadn't seen my parents for a while and when I went to visit they had expressed their concerns that I may be becoming anorexic. I know that 28" waist is pretty thin but in my mind I still feel "fat". I am starting to become concerned as to if I really do have a problem or if my parents and friends are so used to seeing me fat, and most others as fat, that they think I have a problem when I really don't. I am really not sure what to think and if I do have a problem I am not sure how to correct it. Anyways, I would appreciate any advice offered and thanks for your time.

Here is a picture from today.

Hello

First of all, congratulations on your loss.

Second, i can definitely relate to a certain extent. I lost a good bit of weight, and everyone started commenting on ooh aah you've become so slim, and when i kept losing more, my mom started saying that i had to be careful to not get too skinny, and that she didn't think i should lose more weight.

I think you're right when you're saying that the reason people may react like that is because they are used to seeing you fatter, so the contrast becomes greater.

Anorexia is not the same as being motivated. I'm never go hungry, and if i become hungry, i eat. Not a ton, but sufficient and healthy. I still want to tone up more, and lose a bit more bf% though.

If you still feel fat, why don't you get some more perspective?
You look to be in pretty darn good shape, and i can guarantee you that anyone, including all of your friends, hot chicks and others would agree.

Keep eating healthy. I think what helped me the most in all this, is that my focus was never to lose weight, it was to eat healthier and live a healthier lifestyle. The weight fell off as a side effect. If your focus is always your health, then getting some kind of eating disorder is a pretty distant problem.

wall of text crits you for 9000<

How many calories are you getting a day? I think many people confuse lean and skinny. If you are keeping your muscle mass and loosing fat I think that is great! If you are just wasting away then you have a problem and you need to "feed the muscle and starve the fat". Are you lifting weights? Is your strength going up or down? If you are getting stronger then there is no reason to worry. I just looked at your pic. You dont look "sick" at all. IMO you could use a little more muscle but so could I. I think all mothers just want us to be chubby like a baby.

I got your picture to work and your being way too paranoid. I'm 5'8" and 150 lbs. I can bench over 200 lbs and run a mile in 6 minutes. Sure I have a smaller frame, but I can outperform many of the steak necks in my gym. I cant out lift them, but if it came down to a survival scenario, well I would run circles around them.

Not trying to be funny, but are your parents fat? Are you just different now and they may be a little aprehensive?

Lastly, are you healthy? Do you eat? If you eat and you don't throw up, well you probably don't have an eating disorder. My wife is 5 foot 102 lbs, and swears she is fat. Her problem has to do with her own self assessment and a lack of confidence, not an eating disorder.

I can't see your pic.
5'7 155 doesn't sound too out of proportion to me. You're the same height and a few lbs lighter than Chillen--I certainly wouldn't call him skinny. I think it's because you were heavier and the big difference may shock people who knew you before.

People have their own ideas about things like this. I was once referred to as "anorexic" on here when I was 180# LOL

Unless you are starving yourself and/or practicing unhealthy habits (laxitives etc), you are probably doing OK. I guess what I'm saying is if you are losing the smart way then keep up the good work.

I've got an aunt who lost probably 100 pounds or so. At first everyone thought it was great. But, when she kept losing everyone thought she was sick, anorexic etc. But, in reality, she could have probably lost another 30-50 pounds before she was at a normal weight. And, if you didn't know her and saw her in public you never would have thought that. You would have probably said Hey, she needs to lose some weight.

So, what you are going through is normal. As long as you are doing it safely, keep up the good work. Take care, Greg

There is only one thing that's wrong here...

The parent's :D

Your picture is amazing. If you did indeed lose all this weight, I congratulate you. You completely blew your fitness problem out of the water. You seem to have a little mass in that pic. But you could always add more, there is nothing wrong with added weight if it's muscle. And trust me, it will look and feel great.

That is awesome progress for 6 months, it is nearly 2 pounds per week.

What we're your workouts and diet like?

:action11:

I agree with all the guys here. They've given some pretty good advice.

I think you look fantastic. YOU DO NOT LOOK ANOREXIC. And congratulations on losing all that weight!

Just don't lose any more weight. In fact, why don't you start packing on some more muscle? (Yeah, I know. I love muscle ... :D)
