i have poison ivy/oak

i have these strange red like bumps on my arms and legs. some of them are bigger than others and some of them are crusting and others are pussy(gross i know)
my parents say its poison ivy or poison oak.
one of them says to wash with water and soap then use my medication and the other says not to wash with soap; just to rinse and use medication(itch reducer thing)

does anyone have experiance with this and know a good way to stop it and heal it?
 
Bicarb and aloe vera. I used to do scrub cutting and it works a treat.
 
I would think bicarb is short for bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda....yes NBS??

I have never had it (so far!) but have heard not to use soap. This apparently can irritate it and stretch out the healing time.
Not sure if it would work in this case, but calamine lotion is a great itch killer.

Yeah baking soda and vinegar mixed together make a paste and put it on, you will be amazed at the relief. Aloe vera can help but the baking soda and vinegar paste works better.
