well, i'm 18 years old, 5'2", and i weigh almost 180lbs. i have always been chubby, and i want to slim down and get toned (and while i'm at it, strengthen my cardiovascular system) ;)

i have plenty of muscle mass. gaining muscle is not my main focus here. but it seems like everything i've tried doesn't work! it's like i have a really slow metabolism, and like my body does not want to lose the fat.

what can i do? no amount of diet or exercise seem to have any significant difference!

i'm open to all suggestions!

What is your diet like? Do you know how many calories you consume per day? If consuming a low calorie diet, how long have you been doing this?

If your metabolism has slowed as a result of your caloric intake being way too low, then you will have to speed it up slowly by eating more and possibly gaining a little weight and then once reparied, go about decreasing calories in a healthy way to lose the weight.

well, my diet usually consists of a large breaktfast (i hate skipping breakfast). bacon and eggs, or toast and ceral, or oatmeal. lots of orange juice and milk. lunch i sometimes miss, but when i do get it, it may be a chicken wrap, salads and chocolate milk or stuff like that. dinner is usually a meat (lets say, chicken), a vegetable (lets say peas or corn), and mashed potatoes. failing that, it may be soup or casserole.

providing that the weather is good, i ride my bike to work and back (across town) whenever i can, and ride my bike to other places in town.

the rest of my time is sitting here using the computer (i build and sell computers all the time too).

well, thats all i can think of at the moment!

oh, and i also enjoy a cup of green tea whenever i can. it's like what coffee is to other people, but i hate coffee, so i drink green tea, black!

Well even with the really simplified diet you posted, there are a few areas you can improve on.

Breakfast for instance could be improved in a few ways: you could skip the bacon (really fatty and salty), if you make scrambled eggs use one full egg and one egg white instead of two full eggs. Eat whole grain breads and cereals, use normal oatmeal rather than instant. If you like orange juice, just eat an orange, juice is very calorie dense, a full orange will probably have less calories and fill you up more because of the fiber. If you drink milk, switch to skimmed.

If I have an egg based breakfast, I usually have a chopped up poached or hardboiled egg on a piece of unbuttered whole grain toast, an orange, and a glass of skim milk. Granted your caloric intake will be different than mine, and that might seem a little low at ~300 calories, but i also eat 6 small meals a day, so use your judgment.

Chocolate milk is also very calorie dense, even in comparison to normal milk of the same fat content. I think if you replaced your calorie-containing beverages with water, you'd be making a step in the right direction to weight loss.
