I hate this feeling

I made it through my first day dieting... did everything awesome. But i also ate a lot less then i usually do. I didnt want to eat past 7pm, but i am having hunger pains. I'M STARVING!!! I think i need to allow myself something else to eat. I'm proud of myself for making it through the first day... but i dont want to starve myself. I think its ok. Isn't it??

It makes me sick when i think that i could cheat on a diet i just started when i want to lose 65 lbs.

I'm so disappointed in myself. :(
Its getting me depressed, but im so hungry. Not just a craving right now... it really hurts.

Someone have advice?

If I get hungry at the end of the day and I cant fight it I eat some fruit with a small glass of skim milk. Sometimes I have a small cup of sugar free pudding made with skim milk. Thats only if I am not going to bed anytime soon because I hear that its ok to eat at night as long as its not right before bedtime. Sometimes I even enjoy a whole wheat mini bagel with some peanut butter and a glass of skim milk... just something good for me so I wont have that awful empty stomach feeling. Or try drinking some water if you dont want to eat, but my suggestion is to load up on protein durring the day so you wont feel so hungry at night. I suggest to cut off food at 9 pm and not at 7... thats still too early.. atleast for me anyways.

hope this helps :)

this may sound really odd but try pickles if you like them...they tend to curb your appetite. Just something I like to do. I also agree to try to stop eating at 9pm, 7 seems a little early. I guess it all depends on when you go to bed.

I wish you all the best!!!!

What are your calorie and fat intake goals per day? Just curious as to what they are... maybe you are not getting enough and that's why you're so hungry. Just a guess.

Try chugging ice water. That curbs my appetite, because it makes me feel full. Also, if you don't go to sleep at 10 p.m., then 7 p.m. is too early to stop eating. I've always read that you should stop eating 2-3 hours before bed. I make sure my last meal is 3 hours before I intend to sleep, so I don't shoot myself in the foot by trying to starve myself, then eating too late. Also, remember that your body will adjust to the lower caloric intake. It just takes a few weeks. By that time, it will be your new routine, and you'll start seeing some results, which will help sustain your determination.

Ummm..

I found on a website that according to my BMI i should be trying to eat about 1200 calories a day. I only dieted for one day so far... and i cheated of course. i need more discipline. haha. But i want to attempt to eat healthier foods before i count calories.. so its not so over whelming. i want to start counting calories after Christmas.

You'll never do it until you figure out how to commit to yourself, and stop rationalizing your failures. Don't give up.

100down is right, stop rationalizing failures. i know it sounds really "mean" of me to say that, but im telling you for your own good. it's not overwhelming, if ur gonna count calories, start now, not after christmas. because after christmas its new years! u might as well count in the new year, hey u might as well wait till the snow clears and count calories when u can jog outside... ok exagerration but u get what im saying. Motivation is key. You have to start doing it now or you'll never start

I did alot of rationalizing of poor eating and I spent two months 'trying' to lose weight. All I did was eat poorly and then beat myself up for it and then tell myself a 'reason' for eating bad. It was a useless cycle. I lost 2 lbs and felt no better about myself.

The past two weeks I've said that's IT! I am an adult in charge of my body and what I feed it. I haven't eaten perfect but I haven't felt deprived once. If I'm hungry I eat! If I want something that is 'bad', I wait a little bit. . see if it passes. . .if it doesn't I'll allow myself a small bit of it.

Since you are feeling hungry, perhaps there are better ways to distribute your calories. I'm not sure what you are eating. Some things will fill you up better than others. Some things are just wasted calories.
A bottle of Coke is 250 calories and a bagel w/o cream cheese is 220 (at least the ones I buy). Which would be more filling?

PopSecret makes a 98% fat free popcorn. It tends to be my go to snack in the evening. It keeps my hands and mouth busy.

RTMAC is spot on. Pickles are good to kick a craving too.

nemesis is right - there will always be a reason why you can put it off til tomorrow - what you do today is what counts... focus meal to meal and you'll slowly get there.

Also are you sure about the 1200 calories a day - depending on your current weight that seems a little low-- why not check out it's afree site that you can use for tracking of calories and it will give you an assessment ofwhat you should be eating in the day based on age, height, gender and activity level.

Tomorrow is another day might have worked for Scarlett O'hara but when you are trying to change your lifestyle - it's just a hinderance.

If you are hungry you have to eat. I never put a time cap on my last meal of the day. I have been working at this for a year now and believe me I EAT! Food is not the enemy ... have some apple slices with peanut butter, a slice of cheese anything small. You will satisfy your hunger and feel a lot better. The more you deprive yourself the more you will focus on the food... its a mental thing.
Stay Positive!!!!!! You will get there ;)

Hello! I recommend that for daily posts you make a diary and post in that section. The newcomers section is mostly for an introductory post, and the diaries are a lot of fun because you can collect all your thoughts in one place :)

The hunger pangs will lessen as your body becomes accustomed to less food, and the craving also subside after a while. It's not easy though!

im no expert but...

Maybe you should try breaking up what you have planned to eat during the day and eat a little something every 2 hours throughout the day. It may keep you from feeling those hunger pains and wanting to eat something that you don't have planned. So, instead of planning a meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, take the things you have planned for the 3 meals and split them up so that you have something to eat every 2 hours! Good luck!

Hi, Sometimes it's not a true hunger your feeling, when I switched to a low
G I diet with fibre and filling foods I used to still get hungry but I was full, it sounds weird but my body wanted sweet stuff not food, as I had had plenty of healthy food that day. Sometimes when we change our eating habits our bodies scream for what it wants, the unhealthy stuff that made us fat. So the problem is not that we are hungry for food but junk. This is a hard cause it is a bad habit that must be broken in order to succeed. If you have had a healthfull day, say to yourself no I don't need anymore food today,I don't even desire it anymore, and the more times you resist the easier it will be and your body will get used to it's new diet and the hunger pangs will subside.Try doing something else to occupy your mind when you feel like this like read or take a bath, or ring someone up for a chat. Or come here and put up a post.I know it's not easy but you can do it.
