I gained 100 pounds since 1995- Help!!

Im really glad I found this site- Im a 38 year old fellow- a former runner, yet after falling out of the routine of running, i put on a little weight each year- I went from 180 in 1996 to being 280 in 2006.
I would love to get back into running- but my hips and knees were quite sore when i tried to run this past month...
I can still exercise vigorously and barly break a sweat- I use the bicicle to get everywhere- just this weight won't shake-I'm the size of a large football linebacker. I can't seem to get below 280 pounds-In 1996 I was around 180 pounds, though my ideal weight is 200.
I'm single, and have discovered carrying an extra 100 pounds doesnt make me look like a hot catch in the eyes of other singles...
I just feel so isolated with my weight gain, as if I need to suffer this alone...
I used to be very social, but since I packed on the weight, hardly go out anymore..

any advice on how to get fit again?

we didn't get into this state overnight, it won't be fixed overnight..Just remember to take it one day at a time - one step at a time.. your first step is to monitor your eating habits then work on changing them --

I'd suggest using a site like or to record wwhat you are eating int he course of a day... then use their plans or something similar to worko n calorie consumption.

Welcome to the Forum!!

I don't know much about your situation as I've always had a weight problem.

But you've come to the right. . lots of people in your boat. . with plenty of advice.

If you're not seeing any benefits from your exercise, maybe your body has gotten too used to it? Maybe it's time to change up what you do, along with your food intake.

Good luck, hon! I'm just starting this and already having issues with doing what I know I should, instead of what I want.
