...this forum! And, well the weight-loss community in general.

I believe the more support you have, then the more motivated you stay. Thus, I am here joining my first weight-loss community!

Hello all :)

Let me divulge a little about myself, and why I have chosen this moment in my life to loose weight.

My name is Joshua, and I am 25 years old. I have always been a big boy growing up... not always fat, but stocky. Well, that was how it was until I started to believe everyone that I was fat and got a low self-estem.

So, in middle school I started to put on the pounds. Not too drastic in Jr High, but once I got into high school it really piled on!

I still did not have any noticeable health problems throughout high school... I even took martial arts while I was in high school. But, once I graduated and my life got fast tracked the weight kept coming and the health problems finally arrived :(

I started having headaches, and dizzy spells. My blood pressure was up pretty high on a consistent basis, and my blood sugar was hi too.

My mom was getting worried and bought me a gift card to a local gym. I did not use it and the year went by and it expired.

She kept persistent and I finally caved!

On my 25th birthday I started at the local gym, Absolute Fitness, and have been going there for the past 5 weeks.

I started with a personal trainer named Brian, and am loving it! I would have never thought working out could be so fun and energizing. I should have done this years ago!

Anyhow, I have lost a total of 18 pounds so far, and I intend to loose 2 more pounds before the weeks end. If I do so, then I would have lost 20 pounds in 5 weeks! I know I can reach that goal ;)

I have started a personal blog to track my progress of loosing weight, and to help keep me accountable to others (my readers). I am not sure of the rules here so I am not posting the link in this post... But, if you are interested you can check out my profile page on this forum and get the link that way or PM me for the link ;)

The domain name is actually quite snazzy!

I hope to reach my goal of loosing around 90 pounds. I believe it is realistic and I am hopeful!

To be honest maybe I need to loose more than 90 pounds? I am not sure what my body weight is suppose to be for my height and age. Maybe you can help me with that?

I am 5'10" and 5 weeks ago I weighed 284 pounds -- now I weigh 266 pounds. Anyhow, as I mentioned before my age is 25. What is my ideal weight suppose to be?

Well, that is about it for now. I hope to become an active member here and help inspire others on this forum, my blog, and other weight-loss communities!

Until next time, Peace ;)

It's not really about your "ideal weight" as a number, it's about where you feel the most comfortable and healthy. For instance, a toned 200 pound man looks a lot different than a flabby 200 pound man (ie: for instance, most hockey players weigh in the 200lbs range and are definitely NOT overweight, but are very muscular and toned). The average medical weight for your age and height range is between 135-170 ish, so you could aim somewhere in and around there, but everyone's body is different. If you're a big boned man by nature, you will inevitably be a little bit thicker than other men of your height and weight, and that's okay! If you're a small boned man, then you might look really skinny at 160, it's hard to say!

The best thing you can do is keep on your program and keep yourself motivated, and switch to a maintainence plan when you FEEL and LOOK the way you want. Don't worry so much about numbers doll, aim to get healthy and happy! :D Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your progress!

LaceyGirl,

Thanks for the advice ;)

So, I suppose I could try for around 180 and see how I feel and look then. I really wasn't sure what my ideal weight was suppose to be via the medical community, but ya I am a little big boned... I always have been. Therefore, I will probably be healthier at around 170 or 180.

I will keep my workout going strong and once I hit between 180 and 190 I will see how I look and feel. Another reason I think I will top out at the hi end of my ideal weight class is because I am building muscle at the same time I am loosing fat.

Anyhow, once again thanks LaceyGirl for your advice and to anyone else out there I am all ears :bigear:

Peace ;)

Hey there! I finally met someone that uses the word "shnazzy" like me! lol

I feel the same way you do... My "goal" weight is to get to 140. Honestly, I don't even know what I'll look like at in the 160s. I might just be totally happy, hot, and content with myself. So it just all depends for me on how I feel to determine my "goal". Yeah, the BMI chart can give us a good idea of where to be but I find it to be a bit unrealistic.
