I felt like I almost fell of the treadmill during HIIT

I usually run at 6MPH but I decided to try HIIT (or at least start to get used to it) I went up to 8MPH for 2 minutes then went down to walking for a minute a couple of times... I think I did the right thing because I feel kinda dizzy right now...

BUT

At 8MPH I felt insecure on the treadmill, like if I was going to fall and I know that if you fall at that speed on a treadmill it's worse than if you do on the street... I never use the safety clip either, should I use it as an extra precaution?

do you guys suggest that I listen to music? my ipod headphones were falling off, any suggestion on a good pair of headphones for that?

Thx in advanced!

I don't care if this is an old post, I would like an answer as well!

In my case, change 8 mph to 12 mph. I can handle it for 1 minute or so, but I'm afraid of stepping outside of the belt and the ensuing explosion/singularity that might cause.

I think the simple answer here is if you don't feel stable or like you can handle it, then don't go that fast.

HIIT is not about a number on the treadmill - it's about getting your heart rate up, sprinting, and going as fast as you can. That last part is key - as fast as YOU can - safely. If you don't feel that running at 8mph is safe, then slow it down a bit. You can still get the high intensity w/out making yourself unstable.
